Let's Make a Run at Mike McCarthy (2 Viewers)

Sean has been to the NFC Championship 2 times, Mike 4 times

Good post but just have to point this out since it’s our beloved team; Payton got us to the NFC Championship game three times (‘06, ‘09, ‘18 seasons).

Racking my brain wondering why anyone would want Mike McCarthy as our next Head Coach.... then it dawned on me the last coach we poached from the Cowgirls was Sean Payton.... lighting want strike again... move on to a coach of the future not the past

Read the thread and you won’t have to wonder why. You might not agree with the points being made, but you’ll be aware of them, and they are more compelling than a “lightning can’t strike twice” dismissal.

If Mike Mcarthey is hired I will renounce my fandom, go out in a blaze of profanity glory to ensure I am permanently banned from the board incase I am ever tempted to check in.

Good lord lol. There are far, and I mean far worse candidates. Some of which a few on this board actually want.

Is it just me or do other people now really, really want the Saints to hire McCarty?

I'm not even sure McCarty would be my choice for HC, but reading this really makes me want to see these kinds of flame outs. Holy temper tantrum, Batman.

He'll be fired in Dallas this year, and unfairly so because he's just a scapegoat for Jerry's hubris. Dude has been consistently coaching 12-5 seasons. He's over .600 as a head coach. He has a long NOLA history.

Now he may not want to come to this cluster-, without a star quarterback and an unfirable GM, but it makes sense to make a run at him, no?
Definitely worth a look, the fact that he had success and went to the playoffs in Dallas with JJ as his GM says a lot.

At this point I'm wanting them to hire McCarthy just for the comical reactions. Lmao.

Can't wait . Now I hope he is our choice just for people with this mindset

I believe years ago he lost out on a job to Carl Smith, who could out-Carmichael Pete Carmichael, so hard no.

Your ceiling is the best you can possibly do. He’s won the Super Bowl as a HC. How in the world is that low ceiling lol.

Because ever sense then he’s been mediocre at best. He’s been fired twice and one of those times was because of player mutiny. Green Bay officials even said his game planning became so questionable many felt he quit on the team.

Dallas was and is a stacked talented roster, yet he did very little there and kept getting out coached every time he went up against a good coach.

Combine all of that with his superbowl win that was 15 years ago, and he can’t keep a job he keeps getting canned. Good coaches don’t get canned.

What do you mean he is not? Explain. Because from a numbers standpoint they are mirror images of one another

Sean has been a HC for 17 years, Mike for 18 years

Sean is 170-105 as a HC, Mike is 174-112

Sean is 9-9 in the playoffs, Mike is 11-11

Sean has been to the NFC Championship 3 times, Mike 4 times

Sean is 1-0 in the SB, Mike is 1-0 in the SB

Sean has had a top 10 scoring offense 12 times, Mike has 11 times

Sean has had a top 10 scoring D 5 times, Mike has 6 times

He literally is Sean Payton 2.0 or Sean is Mike McCarthy 2.0

And do not act for one second like Sean did not underachieve in New Orleans a few seasons. Love everything about SP and appreciate him to my core, but come on....
I already did explain. I don’t understand why you think I hadn’t.

Most of those good stats came 15 years ago for Mike McCarthy while Payton just took the worst talented team in the NFL to the playoffs with a rookie QB. McCarthy inherited one of the most talented rosters in the NFL and kept getting his butt handed to him whenever he faced an opposing good coach.

On top of that, Payton has never been fired. McCarthy has twice. One with a player mutiny and front officials saying his game planning was so bad it seemed as if he quit on his team.

They haven’t been anything alike since 2011, which was 13 years ago. Payton kept finding success since then. McCarthy has been mediocre at best
