Life comes at you fast: disappointment take after 15-12 loss to Eagles (3 Viewers)

Part of me wants to.blame the defense for this loss, but that would be an extremely reactionary, stupid illogical mindset because their the ones who kept the Eagles offense scoreless for 3 quarters and were responsible for a couple of great 4th down stands. One bad critical.mishap doesn't obscure the fact that they played overall, a good game today.

I do blame our offensive play-calling to.some extent even if KK had limited weapons. The biggest missing weapon was Taysom Hill. He makes those 3 and 4th and shorts we fork up on in the 2nd half deep in Eagles territory. Taysom brings an extra dimension to our offense that affects how secondaries and front 7's read and react to how a unconventional weapon like #7 bends their coverages.

If we have Hill today, we probably score 7-10 more points and while the game still ends up being close, I think we can better successfully wear down the Eagles defense more effectively.
Nope , we can and have won without TH , he makes it easier but the devastating loss was McCoy. That changed everything he was not there to make the protection calls nor was he there to block Carter. Game changer

We were bound to lose a game, this seems a bit haunting though. Is Carr the same Carr? Is KK able to change the game plan accordingly moving forward?
Allen lost the game. Field goal and extra points

Kubiak looks figured out already. I couldn’t tell the difference between this week and a Charmichael offense.

Don't think he had the same game plan in this game as the last 2 weeks. Probably because of the lack of Taysom Hill, but I wouldn't go as far as "Kubiak looks figured out already."

If anyone is to blame for this lost, I would say whoever made the decision to go for it on 4th and 1 after the blocked punt. Kick the field goal. 3 points and I would also blame whoever made the decision to go for 2 after the touchdown, kick the extra point. Score Saint's 16, Eagles 15, Saints win.

So ultimately, that decision falls on Dennis Allen. He made the wrong choices in this game. Saint's lost but should have, could have won 16-15. There was no reason to not kick a field goal at that late in the game just after blocking the punt deep in Eagles territory. TD would have been great there, but the drive stalled, and they needed at least 3 points. And don't tell me hindsight is 20/20. I was yelling at the TV, kick the field goal, KICK THE FIELD GOAL. As were probably another 20K+ fans yelling at the TV at that time.

DA lost this game for us, but I think all will be fine.

I don't know for sure, but it felt like Kubiak probably thought he was going to have Taysom in this game, or else he would have created another more effective game plan.

I knew the loss was coming when they neglected to kick that field goal.

The way KK strategizes offensive gameplans week-to-week and how Hill is such an integral.factor in his philosophy to.how effective it is is like night and day. Today is a good example of what our offense looks like without that Hill component in there to keep defenses confused and off-balanced, and a good defense like the Eagles knows all it has to do is constantly pressure Carr to the point that he'll come close to breaking or make key mistakes.
I think the right plays were dialed up, I think our backups got beat up in the interior by two 1st round picks from Georgia.

There were plays coming open but interior pressure…

I know it’s unpopular here but our TE’s are lacking. We really need to upgrade that position before next season.
They spend a lot of time blocking. Look we run a lot of two man packages. WRs have to make plays, Shaheed left a couple big plays on the field that were game changers if he can make the catch.

Meanwhile we need to figure out our run defense. It hasn’t been elite since we lost our DL coach and got slimmer along the front

I don’t disagree with anything you typed, still feel that our TE’s are lacking also.

we have no safety depth beyond honey badger. It was going to hurt us eventually

Safety wasn't the problem.

The defense held the Eagles to 15 points, and created 4 turnovers (1 INT, 1 sack-fumble, 2 4th down stops). You can't ask a defense to be any better than that.

Add STs delivering a blocked punt inside the Eagles' 40.

This one was a total offense breakdown.

More last-3-years ineptitude in today's game?
Inane decisions by DA .
Clown play by the defense.
Now dropped passes that would have been game changers?
I only watched the last 3 minutes of today's game.
That was enough to give me the willies, dredging up the frustrations from the last 3 seasons.

We’re a bend don’t break defense, sometimes we break. Breaking repeatedly wasn’t the problem, we just broke at a bad time but giving up only 15 points on D to an Eagles offense that was averaging 27ppg is winning defense.

Only scoring 12 after averaging 45ppg is, well..saying it lightly a let down.

Still, a huge part of our identity wasn’t there today.

We were 1-5 in the redzone today. And while Carr has been accurate he hasn’t been the engine to scoring in the RZ it’s been the run game on early downs inside the 20. Down Taysom and McCoy didn’t allow us to play bully ball down there.

Meanwhile we’d been an explosive offense w/ Shaheed making big plays. That connection was 0-5.

The things that lead to our offensive dominance wasn’t there today.

those things make not taking the 3 points and then needing the 2point conversion and failing stand out more.

San Fran lost similar game this year and Shanahan playcalling was questioned. This is a playmaker heavy scheme
