Making the case to heavily pursue Joe Brady for Head Coach (10 Viewers)

Just give me a winner....

LOL, I am aware that is so much harder to do than it is for me to type. I just want to get lucky again like we did with Payton, but even more so like we did with Drew. While I would love another Drew if possible, which we may never see that again, I am more talking about give me a coach and a QB that share the same passion and vision. If we can get that, we at least are headed in the right direction.

If it's someone I agree with or want, great.

If it's someone I do not agree with at all but they work out, then great.

Huh? He's currently the Bills OC. His only negative stint was with the Panthers but everyone outside a few purple and gold homers knew Brady was nowhere near ready to be an NFL OC at that time. He's since learned and grown with the Bills as their QB Coach to Interim OC to now official OC of the Bills and they were the #6 scoring offense with him last season and #2 in scoring this season. He also just annihilated Aaron Glenn who a growing number of people want/think will be the next Saints Head Coach.

That said, I still go all-in on Ben Johnson. Johnson has a far more impressive resume and I think he's got what it takes to be a great Head Coach.
I stand corrected. Thank you.

Agreed.

Not a good draft to need a QB so I’m hoping there’s something to Rattler and there’s a coach out there that not only wants to work with him, but can help him reach the ceiling of the kind of player he was once regarded to be, and has shown flashes of in limited time as a rookie. I hope he plays out the rest of this season and we get a better idea of what we might have, he continues to develop, and the team can sell that to the right HC.

Otherwise, uncertainty around the team is only going to grow.

I said this a while back... I think if we move on this offseason from the current staff... He's our target.
I was actually hoping for someoen from the Lions staff, namely Mark Brunnel. The work he's done w/ Goff is top tier (thinking Rattler development), also tried to identify teams that use multi-back systems and can get the most out of Kamara and Miller

Every report I see on Ben Johnson is that he want's to go somewhere with a young QB (1st rounder) with the tools and people in place primed to make a run. That ain't us.

I would be ecstatic if we got Joe Brady.

I think the only reason people are behind him is because of the LSU connection.

Not at all, I am a LSU fan, but I think his track record (yes, including what he did at LSU) speaks for itself.....

I agree though as a 1st time HC he has to prove he can lead men and establish a good team culture, but there are going to be unknowns with every candidate.....

We don't have Burrow or Josh Allen here. So I'd expect something closer to his Panthers stint. Maybe if he had found Burrow or Allen...or been successful with the Panthers. The Sam Darnold that's going off now had 9 TDs and 13 INTs with Brady. The QB whisperer is either in San Fran, Minnesota or both.

Don't think his stint in Carolina means much, maybe you do, we can just disagree.....

Perhaps he helps us find a QB.....and he is only 35, if he succeeds, good chance he is around for awhile.....just some things to consider.....

Brady got caught up in the "Rhule cycle"tm...I don't trust any bad that bubbled up in Carolina under Rhule.

Give me Ben Johnson all day everyday over Joe Brady. Not even close IMO.

Brady looked absolutely horrible with the Panthers and was ran out of town with the Bills.

Sean Payton looked absolutely horrible with the Giants in 2002 and was stripped of playcalling. Went to Dallas to be QB coach after parting with the Giants. Went straight from QB coach to New Orleans Saints Head Coach.

According to that logic, we would be down a Drew Brees, several playoff births and a superbowl from 06-20.

Its often better to look at growth then it is looking for a pristine resume.

It's probably more due to the INSANE level of success he had while at LSU. Does his being a former successful offensive strategist at LSU cause some Tiger faithful to look more intently at his success with the Bills? Without a doubt it does. But if his time at LSU was a complete flop, I doubt that those same fans would be pushing his name to the top of the 'want list' simply from what they see him doing in Buffalo.

The bottom line is that even if Brady is interested in the Saints head coaching job, he's going have to be able to sell more than his ability to make an offense click in the NFL. A head coaching prospect also has to have enough connections in the business to bring in a staff that can get the players to excel in all phases of the game. Brady will also have to sell his vision & philosophy to Mickey Loomis explaining why his choices of coaches and schemes are right for New Orleans.

At the moment, all we know is that he is a very innovative offensive-minded coach. But there's no way that Brady would ever get the gig on that quality alone. I think that Loomis will certainly give him an interview if he is interested in the job. But he's going to need a whole lot more than his work with Joe Burrow & Josh Allen to give him a shot at being the Saints next leader.

Josh Allen makes offensive coaches look better than they are. Brady might be an excellent coach, but it’s hard to tell because he may have just had the good fortune to be around Burrow and Allen, and both of them make weak coaches look good. Like Daboll and Zack whatshisface in Cincy.
