Making the case to heavily pursue Joe Brady for Head Coach (1 Viewer)

If we don't retain Rizzi and KK, Joe Brady would be who I would want. He's putting together a track record of being a QB Whisperer and with the QBs coming into the league recently/future, that will be needed. He's seems to do well with bigger/prototypical size/mobile QBs. If he's ends up being the guy, I would also be on the phone with Daniel Jones as he fits the mold of what Joe Brady likes to work with. A QB room with Carr/Jones and Rattler would not be bad for 2025 as we build the rest of the team. Joe Brady as HC would also give us an advantage should Burrow decide he wants to move on from the Bengals.

I think Ben Johnson goes to Chicago so I'm really not considering him an option.

I love Joe Brady as an OC but It's not enough to just be good as an OC (or DC), imo. I don't see him as HC material because I don't see him as a culture changer, which is what I think we need.

For example, Sean Payton was a good OC prior to 2006 but on top of that, he changed the culture here. Combine him with a Drew Brees just coming into his own and we had the formula for title runs.

For my money, I think Vrabel is the guy we target. I'm surprised he didn't get a gig last year but that might've been his own decision.

I guess he helped develop Burrow but Allen was more or less a finished product by the time he got there.
IDK, it sure seems to me that Josh Allen's turnover tendencies have been greatly reduced since Brady took over as Offensive Coordinator.

Allen has gone from fringe top 5 QBs to MVP level play.

I guess "pretty much" finished product is probably accurate, but I think it's clear that Brady elevates his QBs.

I came to post that their OC got fired last year and so Allen most definitely didn't make his OC look good. Everywhere he goes the QB "coincidently" does well.

Remains to be seen if he's head coaching material but he's already an OC so a lateral move won't work. He's a young offensive mind that knows how to get the most out of a QB. We got Rattler coming up and if he doesn't develop then we'll be looking for a new one in a couple years.

It's important to note, not just QB. RB and WR's often have some of their best years under him as well. QB is just the highlighted position.

If I were looking for a coach to help us find a quarterback. I'd go for one who already found a quarterback. Not one who went two places that already had them.

Like those guys are ever available? if they have found a great, true franchise QB, that coach is probably not going anywhere for a good while....

I'm skeptical on Brady since he has only been good when he had great QBs. I guess he helped develop Burrow but Allen was more or less a finished product by the time he got there.

There is a good reason why Brady got promoted, quickly to OC.....and it's part of the reason IMO why Allen is having a career year. His turnovers are way down, which is really the part of his game that needed improvement....I agree there are a lot of unknowns with Brady as there would be with any 1st time HC, but I think its worth the risk.....

If they are an OC there they'll leave for a HC job.

If they are the OC there, then they probably had some input but not the authority to pick their QB.....really not sure what you are getting at here....

Depends on the head coach. If it's a defensive guy I'd bet the OC had a big hand in the pick. And definitely in the development. Do you think DA liked Rattler or Kubiak?

Not really, it depends on the way the organization is structured, it could be the HC, or the GM making the decisions....or in some unfortunate cases (like Dallas) the owner.....being as I hate the Cowboys, I hope JJ lives forever!!!

I'm not saying I wouldn't hire Brady, but I'd prefer Johnson or Coen over him. And I might even prefer Burnell and Kingsbury over him. But, I'd probably take a shot on Brady over keeping Rizzi.

Part of it is that I don't know Brady or what his plan would be to rebuild the team. But it's also that he seems to be a guy that can take you up a notch but it's not clear that he can build the base. He was essentially running someone else's offense at LSU and with the Bills so it's hard to know if he can design his own offense and the one time he tried, Carolina, he failed. But, it does appear that he is a good play caller which not a lot of guys are. Seems like a guy that is going to be very boom or bust, but I'd rather that than someone who is more likely to just be average since it's a lot easier to know when to move on if they just bust.

One thing I recall about Brady is an article from the 2019 LSU season where they talked about how Brady didn't like the college environment because fans were too over the top and would come up to him and want to talk to him in restaurants and public places. That kind of makes me wonder if he has the personality to be an NFL head coach. You can blend in to some extent and an OC or QB coach, but the head coach, especially in a city like New Orleans, is going to be the face of the franchise and the center of attention for the entire city. I'm not sure if Brady would be comfortable with that.

Will McClay is the one making those decisions in Dallas. And they've been drafting better than us generally. So you think the same people who made the decision to draft Haener last year also made the decision to draft Rattler? Pete vs. Kubiak made no difference?

I believe Jerry Jones is still the final decision maker, he gave that authority to his son for a few years and their drafts were much better, and I think it bruised his ego a bit....

Yes, I believe a combination of Jeff Ireland, DA and ML (with Loomis probably having the final say) picked both QB's, do you think differently?

You hire HCs to win games, not talk to fans.
