Mariota (3 Viewers)

We were a good team at the start of the year last year....good enough that we finished with a winning record despite starting 58 different players last year. The team we started last season with despite the glaring hole at WR was a deep playoff contender. We lost our QB1 week 7, and our only legit offensive weapon (Kamara) week 8-13 and was still able to claw out and damn near make the playoffs.

Regardless, if we struggle against this bottom of the pot Falcons team, we have problems.
So all those things happened regardless of 'sending a message'?

It's almost as if what happens in game 1, other than whether it's a win or loss, has zero impact on the outcome of the season.

Thanks for making my point for me again.

Stop looking for reasons to be anxious. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Lol the craziness you’re talking you might as well be stuttering. Keep typing that nonsense though. It’s great entertainment

As if week 1 determines anything about a defense being elite lol
Way to shoot for the middle bro. I hope the defense has higher aspirations than you. This ain't about style points, it's about shutting Atlanta out -0-, and the Falcons not wanting to come back to the DOME, like it's the fricken Bermuda triangle!!!!!! We love beating up on Atlanta, like a fat kid loves cake.

Brady is going to be rethinking his retirement, next week, when he has to play us in the DOME. Nobody in the NFL lays their hands on Brady more than us. We have a room full of healthy pass rushers. That are salivating over Tampa's untimely O line injuries. If we are an elite defense, Brady will be cursing out Nielsan at halftime.

We are a very tempered team from last years mess. What's going to shock us now? Even with Adebo out and CJGJ gone, we are good. We roll!!!! When we practiced w/ GB, we had Rodgers yelling at his receivers. We were dominate defensively playing Tampa at the end of the season.

If we can get to 3/0 we will win the division and be a playoff team?

I don’t disagree with anything you just said other than 90% of it had nothing to do with “if we don’t dominate the falcons we have problems” nonsense.

I’m one of the few that said this would be a double digit win from the first thread posted about it. So it has nothing to do with my aspirations. It’s just understanding that week 1 doesn’t determine anything about the destiny of your team. It’s nice to get a win, the style of win literally doesn’t matter.

Its not nonsense...What if Kansas city came out and struggled against.........the Jets, what would you say after that game?

you watch College Football right? What would you say if Alabama came out and won a 23-17 game vs Troy?

You'd say they have problems right?

Edit: I'm bowing out...a win is a win.

No, I’d say let’s see what they look like after making adjustments and cleaning some things up. Just like any knowledgeable football person would outside of reporters looking for clicks

In 2013 we had a pretty bada%% team and only beat Atlanta 23-17 at home to open the season, a terrible terrible terrible Atlanta team that year (4-12). It simply doesn’t matter unless you don’t clean up the issues.

That’s been my point since the very first response when you indicated that it had to be a dominant win or we have issues

All good man. Who Dat

You see, it is up to the defense to lead the team this year. I think the defense should step up and show the nfl that we don't have to score 35+ points to win games.

All the Saints defensive coaching talent we have in house. At the end of pre season, I thought we had as good a back end defense as anyone.....including the Bills. We are going to find out real quick, how good we and how deep we are, with Adebo out and CJGJ gone. They must like the DBs we have in house.

Atlanta went from Matt Ryan to Mariota - QB1

Atlanta avg. 24.8 points a game w/ Matt Ryan, which gave them the 26th ranking on offense.

The Saints at the end of the 2021 season had a 4th ranking on defense. It would be a let down, if we don't dominate on defense w/ this secondary and this many healthy pass rushers. Cam, Davenport, Street, Turner, Thona, Granderson etc.

I never said we where doomed. Yes, we can make adjustments and right the ship. But, this defense (to me) looks as strong as battery acid coming out of pre season. My mind hasn't changed.

The headline won't read "Saints win", it will read "Mariota throws 3 TDs on Saints stacked defense in loosing effort"

Anybody else worried about him scrambling to convert third downs all game. We’ve seen that before over the years.
It’s the read option, too. It’s been that D’s kryptonite.

Talent wise, of course we’re better. But the matchup is slightly concerning, especially replacing so many key guys in the secondary.

Just win and stay healthy. It's a division game, so I have to stay realistic.
TRUE DAT! What have THEY got to loose ( but the actual GAME)? We may be seeing all sorts of formations and "gadget plays"? I'd be "On Point" on the look out for the kitchen sink! Stay Frosty SAINTS! WHODAT!

Hurts sucks and we’ve made him look like league MVP…twice. Mariota is a poor man’s Hurts but even that gives me some concern
I actually think Mariota is a better QB than Hurts (or was at one point). Hurts is just a better runner with the football and he is very timely with his runs. Those guys can wear a defense down. It’s like running to set up the pass, but with a QB. That’s who he is. Jalen has done that his entire football career. He knows what his strong suits are and he’s very smart/calculated. Marcus looks to pass first and run if containment breaks down. Still, he has lethal legs. I guess me saying Marcus sucks was a bit harsh. I’ve always liked to watch him early in his career and I still wish him well, but I think his career is on the tail end of things. I don’t see him having a career resurrection at this point.

Mariota is going to tear up this supposed dominat defense

quick 5 yard slants screens and crossess all game

3/5 new staters in the secondary? What can go wrong?

will have a massive amount of miscommunication on ATL pick plays. Who takes who? secondary standing still lokking at each other

Saints defensive front wont effect this game because Mariota will have the ball out quick or run designed RPOs

Jameis Winston 31- ATL 24
You forgot to refer to yourself in 3rd person.

Boooooooooo....keep that "New Iberia Haircut" energy when talking Mariota. I don't know why we need to kiss his butt, he plays for the Falcons, that whole organization except for the GM (Keep fighting the good fight from within Fontenot!!!!) is trash.
