Video Mark Gastineau confronts Brett Favre for allowing Strahan to break Sack Record (merged) (1 Viewer)

It’s weird to me when people are protective over their records.

I get that the sack, in question, was controversial but to just cling to those records like the game will never grown and evolve past you just baffles me.

Similarly to how Eric Dickerson actively roots against his single season yardage record from falling. Just doesn’t make sense to me.
When you hold a record, it immortalizes your place in history. No one honestly wants to see their record broken. If they say they do, then they are most likely lying

but that whole play looked dedicated to letting him get that sack. the TE looked like he didn't even bother to block on that play.
up 9 points with 2-1/2 minutes left to go, you aren't passing on 1st down..lol
I don’t disagree that they helped strahan out. I do disagree with anyone that just blames Favre. It’s just the lazy thing to do. Of course I’ve heard directly from him in regards to that topic so I may be a tad be biased in what went down. Lol

what did he say about it?

I think Gastineau's issue isn't the record being broken but how it was broken. Imagine if someone ties Brees' 54 consecutive TD pass record and in the 55th game, game practically decided, the opposing team lays down and let's the QB "throw" a touchdown because they are cool with him or friends. As Saints fans, I think we all would be annoyed to see our guy lose his record like that. If it's broken, fine, but you would like to see it happen within the competitive framework of the sport. I couldn't imagine Ohtani sitting on 73 homers and in his last at bat of the season getting a changeup down the middle of the plate to "break" the record.

That record was probably a source of financial income in addition to pride for Mark. I get his emotional response to being hurt about it.

I’ll say this. You’re not far off to think that some people might have wanted to get MS that record. What I will tell you is that from what I gathered from that conversation, and a little bit of info that he would give. It wasn’t initiated by him, but he didn’t disagree with it either.

But the guy crying about it acts like two people haven’t matched that record since then and acts like 22 wasn’t his record at the time only bc of when they started keeping the stat. The real record is 23

I have thought from go that Farve took a dive and gifted the record to Strahan.

I also think Gastineau's sour grapes are tacky.

and forever fork Farve for stealing money from welfare.

I wish Sour Grapes Gastineau would have decked him.
Farvre has Parkinson's. Yeesh

I remember when it happened and I thought it was BS to just hand someone a record like that. I remember growing up watching Gastineau, his relentless playing style, and his celebrations. Like him or not, he was fun to watch. To be honest I didn’t even remember who had the record before Strahan. It’s kind of sad that it still bothers Mark that bad. You can tell he has been holding this in for a long time. Glad he finally got to say it.

I can't bring myself to get worked up about something that happened last week, let alone something that happened 22 years ago.
