Meanwhile Sean Payton is Sean Paytoning in Denver {Thread from September Bumped } (7 Viewers)

I agree Payton may need to re-modernize his offense but some of the takes on here as if his offense was so detrimental or bad for us is just pure hating LMAO.

SP often mentioned what he would have done. I doubt the story about Mahommes.
While he didn't draft Drew Brees he was completely onboard with bring Brees to New Orleans...

There weren't any guarantees that Drew would become a fist ballot hall of fame QB when he left the chargers...
His career took off when he teamed up with Payton.

This myth that Payton can't evaluate QB's is ridiculous...

When I made this post, I had no clue it would get such strong reactions. I was just happy to have a more modern, balanced offense while also keeping a close eye on how Payton isn't making any adjustments, even w/ his rookie QB to support him. He's still passing on 1st and 2nd down as a philosophy.

On draft night I said "Payton is still feeling the effect of missing on Mahomes so he's taking the guy he wants now. Only problem is, far too often in life we zig when we should have zagged, and the next time a similar situation presents itself we zag where we perhaps should have zigged, in an attempt to rectify a previous transgression. Time will tell if he got the right guy"

My thought was that a young QB would refresh him of sorts, make him more innovative. Instead he's just hoping Nix can run his offense that remains unchanged. Last year, if I'm not mistaken the only team that ranked lower than us in use of motion, or was right next to us was Denver. Perhaps he and Nix proves this is a moot point, perhaps he can remain a pass first offense and they have success in the current version of the NFL.

I don't know, I'm just happy those aren't problems we have to figure out now. We've got the right fit for this team and that's all I care about.

I'm miffed that people perceived that as trashing him, or an opportunity to trash him or how effective the offense was in the past. It was effective, VERY, but our gripes for him to run the football perhaps weren't as important then becuase teams weren't playing 2-high and taking away the deep ball. It was still a single high league so it made sense to push the ball down the field to back the safety off the LOS and then run the ball. It's simply the opposite now, to get them out of 2-High you have to run the ball successfully and make them creep a safety in the box THEN throw it over their head.

I don’t know Sean, but l bet he is secretly extremely annoyed watching our offense for the last few games 😀

I know where you were headed with your thread, but there were plenty of comments in the thread that had me shaking my head. Some suggested Brees would have been better with Kubiak at the back end of his career—did we not have a top 5 scoring offense in the last five years of Brees’ career? Payton did an incredible job of coaching the Brees offense, it’s not even debatable.

I think his hands are somewhat tied in Denver because they can’t generate any success on the ground. The RB’s are averaging 3.0 per carry, with success rates for the lead backs in the low 30’s. They are also the worst rated run blocking team in the league according to PFF. With a rookie QB back there, teams are going to make Payton prove that Nix can beat them in the air, and so far he hasn’t been able to do that.

I dont think u were trashing him. Don't think istes ur personality. Payton was great in the 20005 2015 NFL with Drew as his quarterback. All that has changed. This is the best offense in todays NFL. One day it will change

Bree’s was good prior to coming to the Saints. Who did SP draft and develop.

Bo Nix went to Denver with the 12th pick in the draft...

He was the highest rater QB on the board at that time.
Who else would you have drafted with the 12 pick?

Truth is you never know whether you are drafting a franchise QB or not...
It is a crap shoot!

My feeling is that Nix is not starting QB material in the NFL....I wouldn't have drafted him in the 2nd round....We will see what happens over the next few years....I agree on it being a crapshoot....totally.....
watch this magic.... all from before before august 1st 2018 in search parameters.....

i can keep going... but yes... Payton is pass happy first and foremost.

and the kicker to demolish this thought of payton being balanced....

(3 runs vs the Vikings in the first half) 3 rushing attempts in the first half of a game....... 3 RUSHING ATTEMPTS.

Cherrypicking articles over a coaches 15 year career with a team doesn't demolish anything.....my points in my prior post are still absolutely true....

CSP's best teams are when we had good balance
CSP would go pass happy for stretches of time
CSP's run/pass ratio over his duration here does not support the pass happy moniker given to him

Y’all need to miss me with all of the negative Sean Payton talk.

He brought the Saints into the world of NFL credibility. We were pretty much a laughing stock franchise before he arrived.

And he spent a decade and a half here, which is almost unheard of in the NFL.

It's kind of shocking to me honestly that Saints fans would be so critical of CSP....I've been watching the Saints since 1969-70, he is the only great coach we've had and he stayed here a long, long time.....He wasn't perfect but....exactly what you said above.....

All the DA haters have become Payton haters in two short weeks. Just let it go. Hate leads to suffering, which leads to the dark side.

It's more like folks propping up DA by trying to tear down CSP and it's been going on for awhile now....It's just dumb IMO.....

Complete bullshirt, my last post showed that ive been after paytons pass happy tendancies for nearly 15 years. Nothing to do with articles. I linked my posts discussing for years payton being pass happy. Just because he finished his career here running the ball more because Drew's arm was a limp noodle doesnt erase the first 12 years of pass happy tendancies. You literraly just glossed over everything and act as if this thread has anything to do with DA. Its so weird.

OMG.....reading comprehension dude.....told you that comment regarding DA wasn't directed to you in an earlier post.....

And your attempt at a "gotcha" was incredibly lame.....2006, 2009 we had great balance, 2 of the best seasons the Saints have ever had....you just literally.....glossed over those.....

I agree CSP did have pass happy tendencies frequently over his career, but again, his run/pass ratio during the entirety of his career here was not what I would call pass happy....
