Medical reasons why Saints may have passed on RB Tyjae Spears (1 Viewer)

I’m not saying it’s fake. I’m saying the timing and intentions are suspect. Happens every year prior to draft. I’m choosing to trust what I see with my eyes: His performance on the field.

I’m not commenting on other RBs here, just staying on topic since this thread is about Spears. I believe he got an unfair shake leading right up to the draft but I’m happy for him that he still got taken in the 3rd. Titans got a great RB.

What exactly would be the motivation to do so? Unfair shake? Are you arguing that he doesn't have the medical issues that have been reported? If not, then all you're doing is spewing BS.....

Gayle Sanders

Man, that would have been one heck of a RB!!!!!

Also, I wish him all the best and hope he does well, I'm an LSU guy who still likes and routes for Tulane and their players (I thought Mark Zeno would be a star WR in the NFL)....but the facts are he is a smallish RB with potentially serious medical issues....

Literally every year stuff comes up about tons of prospects the week of the draft. That's not "spewing BS" to suggest that.

He had 2 different ACL tears before his senior year at Tulane. The medical flag was there all year. I don't even think the "leak" dropped Spears in the draft he had a 3rd round grade pre combine

Would have loved to draft him and would have been first choice for a jersey. But let's be honest, there are like 5 RB's in the league that aren't just interchangeable (Kamara being one of them) and the rest are just guys. Guys whose careers are over after their first major injury. Given that, you need a sure thing if you're drafting one in the first half of the draft.

Just wanted to recap now that we're almost half done with the season.

Spears has 198 yds on 34 carries (5.8 yds/carry) and 120 receiving yds on 18 receptions (6.7 yds/reception).
49 yds in KO returns. Total All Purpose yds of 367 and 1 TD.

Miller with 83 yds on 27 carries (3.1 yds/carry) and 80 receiving yds on 8 receptions (10 yds/reception).
163 All purpose yds.

Idk I see Spears’ body language after some hits and I just don’t think he will hold up. Also, our line is not the best so it’s hard to compare

Miller is playing fine and looks healthier every week. He’s still learning, but his ability to catch out of the backfield has been a nice surprise.
Spears may have better numbers to this point, but i’ve seen nothing that would suggest Miller was the wrong draft choice.

Tbf we already have our Achane. We needed more of a bruiser.

That's not how the draft should ever work. Imagine passing on Kamara because you "needed" more of a bruiser. Just take the better player. It always works out. No one in Saints history is mad at the Deuce McCallister pick in hindsight. So what if you have similar players. Someone always ends up getting hurt, demanding more money, or becoming trade bait for precisely the player the team covets. Better players mean better value mean better team.

Let's just hope Miller proves to be the better player because drafting to check a box rarely works out well.
