Mike Florio Discusses the Possibility of NFL Teams Having NIL Funding (1 Viewer)

It could be a way for GM’s to “work” the salary cap. Like us with our dead cap issues and always being strapped, The team pays the salary and works with an outside entity that guarantees said player a contract which covers the money the Saints can’t afford and stay under the cap. It would allow the team to stop with these extended dead year contracts, to fit our own players into the budget.

I don't think the NIL would work in the NFL as it is. It's already there to a degree with advertising. They pay the athletes amounts to use them in commercials as it is.
Agree, athletes already have the semblance of NIL money through endorsement deals and commercials, any attempt to officially create an NIL-type system in pro sports would open a Pandora's box that might destroy pro sports as they currently exist...

I don’t think NIL is gonna have the effect (if any) because everyone is already getting paid millions.
The NCAA has NIL because that’s the only source of income for college athletes.

It’s harder for a smaller college to do NIL because even the best programs in the country are still regional, but in the NFL every franchise is a national brand.
If you’re good in NOLA, Dallas, Chicago, or Tampa, you’re gonna get national endorsements.
The key example is Kansas City. One of the smallest markets in the NFL. And also quite isolated, they don't border other significant markets, as New Orleans does with Baton Rouge or Buffalo does with Toronto.

But Mahomes, Kelce and Reid are featured in national adverising campaigns and almost certainly getting paid $$$ for that. If you're good and win in the NFL, you don't have to be in LA/NYC to get paid.

NCAA have that for NIL athletes to make a living. Using on that money possibly to pay possibly for their tuition.

The one difference between the NFL and the NBA as I traveled across the country for work is that NFL teams are regional while NBA teams mostly are just centered in the actual market they’re in.
The Saints market isn’t just NOLA. It’s Mississippi, and parts of Alabama and Pensacola.

It also helps that every NFL TV contract is a national contract. No games are stuck in the purgatory that is a regional sports network.
