Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen offers apology to New Orleans residents, not city (1 Viewer)

Love the fact that he spends his time 'practicing' his Christian faith, but his hobbies are DUI's and talking **** about other cities.

Say what you want about Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, or whatever. Minnesota is the worst place in the US because it's just as bad as all of the above, except balls cold. And as for worst teams/fanbases, for my money, it goes:

1. Eagles
2. Bears
3. Vikings
4. Everyone else, including Falcons, Cowboys, Niners, Rams, etc....

I guess I don't understand the distinction between the residents of the city and the city itself.

Really? Come on.

I don't like what Allen said or the way he said it. But as an out-of-towner, although I love New Orleans and consider it my home away from home, the streets of the tourist areas are filthy and there obviously is a crime problem.

Allen said it in a really crappy way, but clearly you can criticize a city while not criticizing the citizens, since many citizens criticize the city for the very things I just posted. On the flip side, you can certainly apologize to one without the other.

What you're saying is right up there with "you can't support the troops without supporting the war."

That all said, Jared Allen is a ******bag and I couldn't care less what he thinks of any city anywhere.

Really? Come on.
Yes really. I don't see the difference; explain it to me.

I certainly don't disagree with that. They should stop letting all those filthy tourists in. :hihi:

The citizens ARE the city.

On the flip side, you can certainly apologize to one without the other.
When you apologize to a city, who are you apologizing to?

What you're saying is right up there with "you can't support the troops without supporting the war."
false

That all said, Jared Allen is a and I couldn't care less what he thinks of any city anywhere.
true! When I start caring what a mullet-headed yokel thinks about me, then y'all can line up in front of me and start delivering chin shots.

New Orleans is a terribly-managed city with tourist areas full of blight, disgusting smells and garbage. Crime is out of hand and it appears there is no end in sight.

The citizens of the city, quite a few of whom I know and see every Sunday, deserve better.

How does that sentiment fit in with your "citizens are the city" claim?

It's not true, and you quoting me and just saying "false" doesn't make it so.

New Orleans does have issues, and as a city centered around a tourist industry, it damn sure better care what people around the country thinks about it. If you're a resident of New Orleans, and you're not complaining to your city leaders about the same problems I'm talking about, then you ARE part of the problem.

Jared Allen is a mullet-headed yokel, but he's speaking the opinion of many people around the nation, and something needs to be done to change that. It's very important to your city, whether you realize it (or choose to accept it) or not.

Are you saying the crime and litter is from citizens of other cities?

I have to agree with the poster above.

There are problems in the city that have existed for decades and being in denial about them won't solve anything.

BUT, Jared Allen is totally being a punk in this case and is clearly trying to incite emotional responses. A person of his fortune and stature should try and help instead of griping about something he has no control over.

IMO, we should trade for him and see if his tune changes or just to make him miserable.

Are you saying the crime and litter is from citizens of other cities?

Not for the most part.

But is a New Orleans resident to blame for crimes he didn't commit? Do you want to be held responsible for crime in Washington, DC? I mean, you ARE an American, right?

Leadership in New Orleans and Louisiana have done little to curb crime or clean up the city, and burying your head in the sand and screaming that Jared Allen is a nobody isn't going to change that.

It just amazes me that on a board centered around a city with a terrible crime rate that the members generally think the general populace should be blamed for it. It's a select few people, and the city and law enforcement should be held responsible for doing something about it, not everybody that calls New Orleans home.

IF you THINK things are bad now, you should have been around before they made the donkeys have "crap-catchers" under their butts, there were no ordinances regarding discarded and smelly oyster shells, shrimp shells and fish-heads, and the streets weren't washed down regularly to get rid of the stale beer and tourist barfings!

Hope no one was eating lunch reading this, but compared to The Quarters I grew up in, The Yatican City is absolutely A POLISHED JEWEL! And I loved it back in the day , so, be thankful for where we've grown and YES , there still is much work to do but progress happens slower than we would like.

Look how long it took to develop a SAINTS fanchise who has such magnificent WINNING WAYS! It was worth the wait and I am thankful to have lived through the hardtimes to appreciate the GOOD!
Merry Christmas, LOSE TONIGHT falclowns and S.F.? Stick a fork in them, because I'm hoping they are DONE! GEAUX SAINTS, geaux Steelers, Seahawks and Rams! 2nd Seed, here we come! IMHO, 'Nuff SAID!
