This idea just popped into my head for a thread that i think might be interesting to read, or at least interesting to me .. Somehow in the Today in Movies thread the old Ghostbusters came up and i mentioned id seen it on release in the Lake Forest theater in the East and , even as a 10 year old, i didnt fall in love with it - or really even like it- though it was absolutely huge .. So what films did you maybe want to like, or want to understand why other people loved them, but it just wasnt happening for you ?

So i have two:

Good Will Hunting.. im the exact target demo for that movie, im the same age as those guys, seems like it would have been right in my wheelhouse and i saw it on its release but … i dont know, maybe it was too on the nose, or too something but it didnt resonate with me like it seems to have with others.

The Big Lebowski.. saw it a couple years after it came out.. and i just- No…. All these years later, and all the millions of times people have quoted it, all i can figure is maybe it’s because i wasnt a stoner ?

To be fair, there are many films i worship to an unhealthy level, but the two above just dont do it for me .

@Bill is exempt from this thread since he claims to have literally only seen two movies in his entire life .

Saw that in a theater in Pensacola on a rainy day and didnt get it, but i was 7.. years later tried to watch it but it was too late, its moment and time had passed .. so i pretty much agree .

<——————. But the theme song kicks arse ! (If that was ur joke then i missed it ha)

Ah, knowing you as I do, I just took a shot on a movie I thought you might like, to see if I could get you riled up. Turns out, it's just the song you love.

It's a good song. It's a mediocre movie. Some people love that movie. Gosh we're old.

I've only seen two movies at the theater.

Carry on.

I specifically asked you before and you said you had only seen two total including movie theaters, VHS, tv etc .. why ya changing ur tune now ?

ETA if i recall correctly you said you saw Jaws and Jedi in the theater, and maybe part of Top Gun on VHS (?)

I don't like movies in general. I'm just not into fiction. (And by far most movies are totally fictional)
But you really didn't listen to what I said in the past. I have seen Jaws (in 75) and Return of the Jedi (in 83) at an actual movie theater. That Star Wars flick bored me to tears.
But I have watched a few movies on TV if they were based closely to a real life account. A case in point was Apollo 13. I was a big fan of the Apollo space program when I was a kid, and so I wanted to see how director Ron Howard was going to pull off a story like that.
I have also occasionally watch a portion of some movie on TV just to see a particular scene or two. Another case in point is when I wanted to see the flying scenes from the original Top Gun movie. As a pilot myself, there is a certain thrill out of seeing the world from that perspective. I can't wait until the new Top Gun movie comes on TV for the same reason.

I stand corrected . :hihi:
