N/S Brandin Cooks traded to Rams (2 Viewers)

You're overvalueing picks and don t understand the bust probability or the difficulty of finding top 5 players. Luckily... No one in the NFL believes that. A top 5 player yields multiple 1st picks or being package with a player.

And you are undervaluing picks. The possibility of having a good player at a cheap contract for five years has a lot of value, even with the bust probability. In my opinion you never trade a lot for a player you will have to pay a lot immediately.

Contract reasons or not, both Sean Payton and Bill Belichick in the last 2 years thought they were better off with a 1st round pick then keeping him on the roster.

The pats did not recoup what they gave up to get him . The first round picks are basically a wash, not much difference between the 32nd pick they gave up to get him and the 23rd they got for giving him up to the Rams. But that was only part of the deals. In our trade they also traded a 3rd rd pick for a 4th rd pick to get him and now with the Rams they traded away a 4th rd pick for a 6th rd to get rid of him. So basically, they traded down from the 3rd rd to the 6th to rent him for a year. I wouldn’t exactly call that getting back what they gave up.

All the national pundits are saying they got better value in their trade. Going from 32 to 23 is a really big deal. Just that move would cost you at least a third maybe a second to make that jump. And the third and fourth we swapped was just a few spots. They got a better deal for Cooks than we did with only one year left on his deal.....Guess it makes up for Garappolo they got hosed on that deal....,

Never said first rounders couldn’t be busts. All I meant was it’s very hard to get a first rounder these days. Gms treat them like gold

Watkins has had about 50% of the production Cooks has had the last two seasons.

The Rams made this move because they clearly think Cooks is going to give them a lot more. I wouldn't bet against it. Call him whatever you like, but the guy produces yards and that's ultimately the point.

Cooks has played with Brees and Brady and in great offenses which has a lot to do with his production over Watkins

I understand and respect that many Saints fans, unlike fans of most NFL teams, view the Patriots as a kindred spirit. After all, they, too have a mastermind head coach; the most accomplished in the game. They, too were unfairly targeted through capricious punishments by the league (albeit punishments which pale in comparison to those the Saints put up with). But the Patriots worship in this thread is getting a bit ridiculous. Remember, this is the same team who traded away a good, young starting quarterback for only a mid-second round pick:

Not only did the Patriots not get to "rent" Brandin Cooks a year for free, they gave up the trade value of an early third round pick to do so. Not only is that not a steal, it is at best an even exchange. I certainly wouldn't give up an early third for one year of Brandin Cooks. We drafted Alvin Kamara early in the third! The myth of the "genius" Patriots is just that.

Right...I'm sure there is another more important reason other than the players they draft and acquire that they have won their division 15 times out of the last 18 years. And been to the SB 8 times in that span, winning 5 of them. So yeah, some kind of myth...

Whoa. I get the whole "one trick pony" thing. But lets not pretend that Brandin doesn't have value. The Rams are stacked and definately scary.
Agree. Will never be Antonio Brown due to his lack of physicality, but he’s still a very good solid receiver.

I think it's funny that he's ended up being traded to the team that we almost hung 50 on without targeting him 2 years ago that caused him to throw his little temper tantrum on twitter about closed mouths not getting fed or whatever.

Yeah, poor guy only had Drew Brees and Tom Brady throwing to him before.

Goff is definitely an upgrade. :spit:

Hall of Famers, they are indeed, but cannon armed they aren't. He's a burner on the 9 route who now benefits from a strong younger armed qb. Downvote if you want, but it's the truth.

Duh. Cooks will demand and get number 1 money but will never be that guy.

Watkins' injury issues have a lot to do with his production as well.

Watkins played for the Rams last year, who ultimately found him not even worth keeping despite giving up a 2nd rounder for him.

That should tell you something about him.
