N/S Brandin Cooks traded to Rams (1 Viewer)

Right...I'm sure there is another more important reason other than the players they draft and acquire that they have won their division 15 times out of the last 18 years. And been to the SB 8 times in that span, winning 5 of them. So yeah, some kind of myth...
I never once disputed their success. That doesn't mean that every transaction they make is automatically brilliant. Even the very best teams make some boneheaded moves, or in this case, one that is at best a lateral move.

For the Pats it is an exception rather than the rule. For the life of me I can't understand how anyone can dispute that getting a 1st round pick for a player that you weren't going to overpay for in the near future is not a win....

The Pats robbed the gullible Rams. I mean no way you give up a No.1 and No. 6 picks for 1 year player and their No.4 pick. I just don't believe that is equal value.

Just saw this in article about Brady not being upset losing Cooks

As Ben Volin of the Boston Globe noted on Wednesday's Pick Six Podcast (listen below, subscribe to our daily, 30-minute show on iTunes here ) Cooks' production does not necessarily match up with his statistics. He was wildly unproductive on third down last year ( 7-for-26 ), which might be part of the reason why Brady isn't devastated.

Cooks is like the mid-30's friend you have, who owns a doctorate, is pretty good looking and just can't lock down a long-term relationship. There's something underneath the surface that made both Sean Payton and Bill Belichick trade him after a productive run with the Saints and Patriots, respectively.

I was originally mad about this but upon further thought it makes sense. That Watkins deal was the death knell of us retaining Cooks. There's no way we'd even approach the 16 million Watkins got let alone match it. I imagine we offered a 10 million APY deal and Cooks said nope bye. I'm happy with the return we got though. I just hope we don't use it on a WR as we are notoriously terrible at drafting WRs and DBs with a few exceptions.

I'll never forget Cooks doing this though-

Maybe we can offer you guys a 3rd for Micheal Thomas? :hihi:

Correct, anyone who is saying otherwise is being intellectually dishonest.

You need to be banned for mentioning that offer.

Cooks has put up some good numbers playing with two of the greatest QBs to ever pick up a football. It will be interesting to see how he fairs without one of the goats throwing him the ball. Those stats that are so important to him could take a hit.

I was so excited when we drafted Cooks. He was supposed to be the next Antonio Brown. He was supposed to be this great route runner with good hands who could flat out fly. Then I saw him on the field and he just wasn't.

So Patriots have lost:

two wide receivers (Cooks, Amendola),
starting RB (Dion Lewis),
LT (solder)
and possible starting RT (Cameron Fleming)

What's gonna happen to their offense?

They will again be top 5 and a Super Bowl contender. As long as they have Belichek and Brady, this will be the case.

Take those 2 first round picks and flip them to NY for Beckham?

But we have Edelman coming back since he was out all of last year. (torn ACL in preseason)
Hogan
Dorsette
Britt
Mitchel, the rookie we drafted in 2016 and made some good plays in the Falcons Superbowl will be back as well.
White (Falcons killing RB)
Burkhead ( RB who was also hurt a lot of last year but played well)
Hill, the short yardage back we lacked when we lost Blount.
As well as Gronk.

Like Brees, Brady has never needed big names to be productive and that offense on paper is more talented than others we've made it into the playoffs with. Honestly the biggest loss is Solder.

Its our absolute ******* front 7 that we need to fix, especially the LB core. There is a woeful lack of talent past Hightower.
