LOL.

We tried telling them he's a one trick pony who disappears when things get tough and that he'll never, ever, fight for a ball or shake a defender. It's just who he is. He looked just like the guy we traded away last night, and that's why we traded him.

Cooks is a good receiver. he just isn't a true #1 worth the 22nd pick in the draft. He's not physical enough to beat press coverage off the line.
He's more of a slot receiver and that's probably his future. I hate playing the numbers game, but a true #1 is usually 6'2' 215+ who can fight
through press coverage and high point the ball in a tight window. Cooks is physically limited in that capacity.

If Patriots fans thought they were getting AJ Green, they are stupid.

They got a very good receiver who's going to give them 1200 yards and 6-7 TDs.

If they want more than that, then they should try keeping a 1st round draft pick for a change and take a more physically dominating WR.

i don't get all the flack. he still has 54 rec for 924 yds and 5 tds

Shrugs

I've been saying since the moment we made the trade we won because nobody maximizes talent the way Sean does. Cooks has his limitations - WE all knew that around here.

Sure. It's patterns in situations. Everybody has flaws.

It's that same way we ( i am guilty) grouse on Payton for certain poor habits in certain crucial situations.

Payton's offenses are consistently near the top of the league no matter who you plug in at WR and even when they can't run the football well. He's got the skins on the wall but then you can count on a couple/three key games every season where he lays an egg, especially in some crucial situatiions.

Patterns.

Then you didn't watch the game last night. He passively went after 2 long balls (on one he had the defender beat by 3 steps), didn't hold his ground, and tried to reach with only his arms on both passes. DB bodied up and picked them both.

And we got our RT for the next 10 years. Thanks Pats!

And thank you Malcolm Butler for not signing your tender. He has looked pretty meh this year.

So we end up being able to move on from Cooks in exchange for the pick that landed Ramcyzk and the pick that I believe led to Hendrickson. And then in not acquiring Butler, we remained in need for corner and were able to take Lattimore.

Hindsight is 20/20 but whew. That all worked out pretty well for us.

Not sure we won the trade, whatever that means, but it would be hard to argue successfully that we lost it. Cooks is an interesting case because he has superior speed but not much else. Agree totally that Payton maximizes talent. He used Cooks very well, just as he used Meachem and Lance Moore very well. When Cooks complained about not being "fed," it became clear that trading him was the best option. He wasn't a good returner. And, as others have pointed out, Ramczyk essentially was the tradeoff. Ginn and Lewis aren't great returners, but they have been more effective than Cooks.

No disrespect for Cooks, but he is what he is. We don't have a WR with the potential for a 97 yard TD reception any more. That's about all we are missing.
