N/S Pats fans going off on Cooks and Brady (1 Viewer)

There is always controversy with the team we send our playmakers on offense to.

Well, I didn't. I guess I missed seeing all of his flaws.

It's pretty simple to explain.

When the Saints drafted Cooks he was wideley compared to Steve Smith.

Smith started out in the league as a punt returner and developed into an all around threat by his 3rd year.

With Cooks Saints thought they were getting a guy who could beat you

-Deep
-Intermediate
-Short
-Return Game
-Gadget Player

In year 1 it became apparent that he wasn't useful in the return game so they scraped that off his plate.

At one point Payton was quote as saying "We have the right returner, the other 10 guys need to be ready"

Cooks was never given an opportunity to return kicks again.

Cooks following that year talked about how he needed to improve on his YAC and seeing the field.

Now the Saints were counting on him to be a threat

-Short
-Intermediate
-Deep
-Gadget Player

Well because of his inability to navigate traffic it became apparent that Cooks wasn't a gadget player, nor was he a threat to take short routes the distance.

So then we get Cooks 3rd year and after drafting Thomas they scrapped the gadget plays with him and the short plays (went to thomas ie slants) and they only asked him to be a threat on

-intermmediate
-deep routes

We'll that eventually lead to a complain from Cooks that he wanted to be more part of the gameplan.

That lead to many of us fans pointing out that he wasn't a huge part of the gameplan because he has a limited tree of things he can do and do well. When the saints weren't dependent on getting him the ball they used him as a high end deep threat decoy.

So we went ahead and traded himi to the Pats where Brady could make use of him deep ball ability but the Pats assumed they could fix his ability to get open short by using him in the slot more.

Didn't work because he STILL CAN'T NAVIGATE TRAFFIC(and this was said repeatedly if you check that thread) and they are left with the same Brandin cooks we moved on from.

The guy who will kill you intermediate/deep and outrun anybody but can be taken out of the game and isn't a go to receiver by any stretch of the imagination

No Gloating

Just facts

And thank you Malcolm Butler for not signing your tender. He has looked pretty meh this year.

So we end up being able to move on from Cooks in exchange for the pick that landed Ramcyzk and the pick that I believe led to Hendrickson. And then in not acquiring Butler, we remained in need for corner and were able to take Lattimore.

Hindsight is 20/20 but whew. That all worked out pretty well for us.

I wanted Butler so bad at the time, but not getting him has been one of our blessings. Crawley and Lattimore at the corners are our best options.

And drafting Ramczyk with that pick has been invaluable.

Not saying you were comparing them but that is a really foolish comparison. Steve Smith was a freakish athlete, a mix of quickness, speed and strength (he was freakishly lineman strong) and unbelievable leaping ability. There may never be another 5'10" WR (or player) like him again....Cooks has neither his agility, strength nor toughness.

I wanted Butler too, I thought there was really no chance I rookie CB could come in and have immediate impact, I was very wrong. And happy to admit it!!!!!

Ramczyk will be one of the best RT's in the NFL in the next few years....

Cooks wasn't great at separating either. Hursh. People were screaming our WR's couldn't separate when he was here.

Seriously?

No one said Cooks "couldn't separate" I simply responded people were saying "our WR's couldn't separate WHEN HE WAS HERE"

Furthermore those images don't prove he was "Great" at separation. If anyting proves he had great hands (which we all agree on) and he can run away from people when he catches the ball.

Now find some Gifs of him getting stuffed repeatedly and taken out of games since you want to research to validate a specific point.

I repeat no one is saying Cooks isn't a good WR.

Cooks has limitations.

We knew it and traded him......period..end discussion. Having limitations doesn't not make him a good WR..just makes him a good WR with limitations. People argue and don't even know what they arguing. Just want to throw their hat in the pile

No, that part is up to you. Why would I do your searching for you? Especially since I bet they are a lot harder to find but there are plenty of ones like what I posted all over the place.....Hmmmmm:scratch::smilielol:

Cooks could get separation, but by then he was out of Drew's range. His concentration in traffic was amazing. He just didn't have any power or wiggle, and didn't have the vision to run to daylight.

Ginn is better in most areas, except hands. He gets open deep pretty easily, but by then he is out of range or the ball is out.

Exxacty my point - anyone can find gifs to prove he can catch. But what point were you making?

You quoted me as though I Was saying Cooks couldn't separate and was some garbage receiver. That was not what I was implying. So you argued and posted as though there was a legit argument htere. There wasn't.

Those gifs showed Cooks being an intermediate and deep threat. That we know, but go find some gifs of him taking a screen 25 + Yards or a slant 25 + Yards or a Punt return 25+ Yards or an end around 25+ Yards.

If you can find them then you'll have a good argument by my argument remains the same.

Cooks is an intermmediate and deep threat but lacking in the ability to be a short area threat. He can't offer anything on ST's and he doesn't offer anything as a gadget/or space player because he can't navigate space.

IDK..pointing out his limitations isn't saying he is garbage which appears to be how this is taken and if that's the case the issue is within the brains of the people disagreeing, not my assessment.

Some people saw this coming,

others didn't

I said that we got Belichecked, how glad I am that we were. No Butler, and the addition of Ram Jam #blessed.

Wanted to tell u fix the link. The 2nd one is invalid.

There was some well respected people saying we got fleeced in the trade. I never agreed with that assessment. Bill and the Patriots were being given far more props than necessary and Paytons ability to assess talent and replace him was also being downplayed.

You can't look at the trade in combination with who was drafted. You have to look at the pick. The Saints missed when they traded up with the Eagles and used a 3rd roudner. Doesnt' mean cooks was ever worth that. The fact that they got a 1st round pick back for a guy who is an intermediate/deep threat was WINNING.

The fact that they turned the pick into Ram is just embarassing but they wont the trade for the most part out right. Only problem was people were overvaluing Cooks.....wayyyyyyy too much.
