Headed down to the House of Blues for a concert tomorrow...I need advice on possible accommodations. I don't need anything fancy, just looking for a place to crash mostly. I'd prefer it be within walking distance of Bourbon/Decatur area, but I'd be willing to take a cab if fares outweigh the extra cost. Most hotels in French Quarter seem to start around $90 or so...Any and all advice is appreciated!

The French Market Inn seems to be the cheapest at $69 but I have no idea what they charge for parking or if you were planning to park at the hotel.

Thanks, tequila. That's what I went with, but like you said...I have no idea on parking. I'll just hope for the best. Planning on arriving around 5, I'm thinking that should be enough time to find something.

Yeah, just realized that there is no parking provided. They suggest a local private parking lot at $28/day. Ouch... I'll try to find a better solution. If so, I'll post here...

Parking will likely add to the price of a room anywhere. I'd park on the street tomorrow night and move the car in the morning if you can't find a hotel with free parking.

Le Richelieu has long been the only hotel in the Quarter that offers free parking.. And you could ask for the Paul McCartney Suite, where he lived with his family while recording the album Venus and Mars in 1975.. if it was good enough for a Beatle...

Le Richelieu Hotel Review

First a row mansion, then a macaroni factory, then a hotel, and finally a Katrina victim -- this building has seen it all, including part of its roof collapsing. But the latter mess allowed for some new paint (or textured wallpaper), carpet, drapes, and beds, and consequently Le Richelieu looks as good as it ever has (though some rooms still look rather motel-like, thanks to dated mirrored walls). Bathrooms are still the same, only fair, just like any old hotel. Other rooms are standard high-end motel rooms. Many have balconies, and all overlook either the French Quarter or the courtyard. Le Richelieu is good for families (despite the surcharge for children), being away from the adult action and with a nice pool. The McCartney family thought so; Paul, the late Linda, and their kids stayed here for some months long ago while Wings was recording an album. Le Richelieu is the only hotel in the French Quarter with free self-parking on the premises.

Try Bienville House, across the street from House of Blues. It's a local hotel and if you call on short notice, they may be willing to deal on a room which would otherwise go empty.

i don't know what to do about parking. Personally i would park it somewhere else in the city (like St Charles Ave) and take the streetcar back downtown. Or just off Magazine somewhere and take the 11 bus to Canal and Decatur. Or somewhere on Elysian Fields, and take the 55 bus straight to your hotel.

Try not to let anyone hear you say "N'Awlins" :) Just sound it out. "New Orleans"

i like Rise Against. i wish i was going to that show tonight :9:

This what I do on every trip about parking. Park in the Harrah's parking garage. When you are ready to get your car, go play video poker for 30 minutes in Harrah's and then swipe your players card (if you don't have one, you can get one in two minutes for free at the players club) at the parking validation kiosk over by the theater. The kiosk will print out a voucher for free parking. Just show your parking ticket and the free parking voucher to the attendant as you leave the garage. You won't be risking much at .25 video poker and who knows, you might get lucky in that 30 minutes.

I'm going to second the Harrah's thing, this is what I do everytime as well. Also, if you park at Harrah's and eat at one of the restaurants on I think it's Fulton street, like Gordon Biersch or um... Grande Isle I think it's called, they'll stamp your parking pass too.

I'll third the Harrah's parking garage. We were there for 4 days at New Years, and all it took was the wife playing for a little bit on the penny slot machines to cover $120 in parking.

I also use priceline.com to get hotel rooms. If the town isn't very busy, I get some good deals on rooms downtown. Check out biddingfortravel.com to see how to use priceline to your advantage, and see what other people are getting rooms for.

I wish I had researched sooner, I'll definitely be going with the Harrah's parking next time. We ended up in a lot a block off Decatur for $20 overnight (still $15 cheaper than what French Market Inn wanted). The hotel was a great location and decent price ($80) for two people. A couple of uncontrollably drunk friends of mine showed up and upped it by another $45 (20 per person per night), but I'd still say it was worth it to have a spot so close to everything downtown. For those wondering, the Rise Against concert was amazing, and everything went as well as could be expected. We hit Decatur first (molly's at the market and that Russian place next door), very decent drink prices. Went back to the hotel and hit the ice chest for a bit. Went to the show...walked in exactly when Rise Against went on stage. They seemed to play my own personal playlist...Left there and hit the Dungeon...Very cool place, I'm not sure if I'm upset or relieved that the upstairs was under construction... All in all, spent very little by having an ice chest in the room and not going overboard at the bars. Dungeon's drink prices leave some to be desired, but not horrible. I gotta say it was funny to have a friend get kicked out a place called "The Dungeon" for a dress code violation (it was hole in the knee of his pants...and we had already been in there for an hour...strange). Had an awesome time, and I plan to return for training camp...hopefully get to hit Harrah's this time around!

I've never actually said "N'Awlins" and get annoyed when others do. I have no idea why I put that in the subject...poor judgement due to overwhelming excitement?

You shoulda been there, man. Good times!
