The 86-87 port visit was actually the 2nd time we went in there that cruise. I think on the second time we went in was christmas eve day and stayed until after new years. The bar I was at new years eve had balloons tacked to the ceiling and when it hit mid night he girls used there cigarettes to pop them and shower us with champagne.
I hear ya. Singapore shut down like 3 city blocks to auto traffic and it was just foot traffic. For a city with such strict rules, I was surprised at how laid back and fun it was. And I still claim that Singapore has the most beautiful women in the world per square foot.

I don't know how I feel. Well, I guess I do. I hate it. Except I like fireworks (and luckily my dog is not bothered by them). But it just feels like you're expected to be happy, hopeful, and hearty about turning a new year and.I.don't.
I agree.

Nothing magical really happens on New Year's eve/day. Just a bunch of hangovers. I haven’t done anything beyond celebrate at my house or a friend’s house for a quiet evening with some drinks and food for some years.

As Buzd said, it’s amateur night and the food & booze is better at home.

My one requirement for New Year's Eve is staying up until midnight to ring in the New Year. I was probably in Jr High the last time I wasn't awake at midnight for the new year.

The calendar timing of it is all off - how do you start a new year 2 weeks into winter?
Carnival is a much better way to transition from one year to another

Oh goodie, the annual New Year's Eve civil war bombardment is beginning early. Gotta love the massive concussive fireworks going off in the distance that rattle the house.

I was actually typing this in my response and deleted it. That it doesn’t even happen during a season change where you can feel a shift in the atmosphere. Instead it’s in the dead of winter and cold and all I want to do in the cold is be inside in warm comfortable clothes.

It started at Christmas.

It started at Christmas.
I think I heard one or two random blasts then, but around here, the full-scale blasting is tonight.
