NFL and NFLPA begin talks on 18-game season (3 Viewers)

I’m like “Whatever” at this point. I wish it never got tinkered with at 16, and hate what this will do to the record books, but I see the benefits.

I am just not the type that thinks more = better.

One of the biggest advantage football has over all the other major sports is that each and every game is such a big deal- the weekly build-up for each game and the impact on the standings with each win and loss is unparalleled. Two extra games isn’t devastating, mind you, but I just feel like we may be fixing something that wasn’t broken, again.

Money ruined the game, the players are getting more money, the owners / League is getting more money, and the fans are getting charged to watch regular season games.

The 17th game doesn't make sense. It's a non-conference opponent, so it has minimal tie breaker weighting. Also, in any year half the teams are getting an extra home game (excluding any home games lost to international games).

I'm guessing the 18th game becomes another non-conference game while the increase in international games leads to retaining the home/away imbalance. All that extra injury risk and no real improvement in determining who deserves a chance to play in the Super Bowl.

Nah they won't let that revenue opportunity die. There'll at least be an NFL jamboree...get your regular priced tickets for half a game :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

It doesn't die. They will eventually convert all preseason games into regular season games making them more profitable.

what’s the big deal with Presidents’ Day weekend that’s brought up a few times? Do ppl even get off for that? I’ve never heard of that being a holiday unless you’re government.

Make the Super Bowl on a Saturday! We can recover on Sunday. Back to work Monday.

I don't see the issue going to 18 reg season games if you do it right. If you need to cut out 1 pre-season game then add another joint set of practices with a different team. If you add a 2nd bye week then make sure you don't have any short week Thurs games, because those are way more detrimental to player safety than another reg season game. I'll tell you one thing if that 18th game is the reason we make the playoffs everyone will LOVE an 18 game season

This news should not surprise anyone, an 18 game season was always Goodell’s plan way back in 2019.
It’s part of his international expansion plans.
