They applied for a job where they'd dress scantily and flirt with drunk fans. What am I missing here?

I think there are some things in that article that are disturbing and should be handled in a matter more respectfully and professionally than they were. E.g.

Six women who were ambassadors for Washington described the gig as a sexualized saleswoman. Some had to go to team tailgate parties, where attendees were encouraged to drink, and men would grab them and hug them or make inappropriate comments.

Chambers often had to go into the stands for giveaways, and once a man ran his hands over her crotch. She told team officials and police, but nothing was done about the incident.

This is eventually going to come to a head. .

I apologize. I could not help myself :hihi:

Great... Now all we need is some goody good tree hugger to come along and try to save these ladies from their plight of doom...

"911, what is your Emergency?"
"We have some scantily clad young ladies dancing around in the parking lot by the tailgate."

This is a recycled article. Nothing new other than there is a second tier of cheerleaders who are not good enough to make the team. However, if you want to be a scantly clad model without or maybe in conjunction with working at an establishment run by Joe OKC, the fluff job is available.

I am not saying I advocate abuse or harassment of women. But if you sign up to work at Visions, understand what you are signing up for. And if you didn’t understand that taking this job meant that you had to flirt and use your body as a tool to make money......QUIT!

What exactly has been said here that is deserving of such sneer? Please tell me I'm misunderstanding your comment.

Well, I could say:
"911, what is your Emergency?"
"We have some scantly clad young ladies dancing around in the parking lot by the tailgate."

Or I could say:
"Lighten up Francis"

It's the source of that picture that's the problem Joe.

A crazy women making a big deal about nothing. Seemed like humor to me. Folks get offended so easy, yet are willing to throw stones all day.

The problem with the "if you don't like it, quit" solution is that it isn't a solution. It may be an option for some individuals, but it may well not be for others; people ultimately need to work and there are not unlimited jobs out there for every individual to choose from, so if a job's conditions are intolerable, there may well still be a steady stream of people who either will do it until they find out how bad it is or will do it because they don't much alternative.

Which is why we have laws regarding employment to prevent employers exploiting and abusing people.

That doesn't mean NFL teams shouldn't be allowed to employ attractive people to act as hosts and hostesses. It does mean they should be doing something about it when their employees are being groped.

I think it's more of a highlight of the abuses of conditions. Especially when actual sexual battery is reported and not dealt with. At the least, kick the guys out of the game. No one should have their crotch grabbed at work, especially uninvited.

They're massively underpaid. They have highly restrictive rules. They're bullied (by the sounds of the articles). These are hostile working conditions. I don't think they'd be complaining if the job was fun at least. But when it's not fun, all the bad stuff comes out.

I guess you'd have to compare this to how a girl working at Twin Peaks or the Tilted Kilt is treated and paid.

Why don't the girls who are selected for the calendar get any of the profits from that? Seems fair. Should be a bonus for being picked.. that's how you can make some money. It's akin to the players making money for the owners. They get a cut of the profits, because they are the product. The girls are a part of the product, just to a lesser extent.

And if you're paying attention, all of these articles coming out, coupled with the Spurs just getting rid of their dance team (an effort to get ahead of a bad story?), something is going to come to a head. I think some better treatment and better pay is fair.

I don't think the job description said that you may end up in a luxury suite to have old men touch and grab you like you're their date. I think their expectations were scantily clad, fun, and hands off.

the article highlighted the abuse and harassment of women. And that makes up a portion of your post - the rest sounds like a lecture that they should expect and endure the abuse and harassment because of their choices. The balance of your post's content seems off. It feels like you just wanted to lecture the girls about how this all the fault of their choice and they should know that going in. You spend most of the post talking about that.

and that's apart from the implied sense of entitlement that you think the men have when it comes to these girls... and that mentality is part of the problem in the first place
