No Way Rizzi can be our HC (1 Viewer)

You MUST be confused if you watched this game and came away with "we kept them from running the ball".

I agree with one thing you said though, Rizzi is still a strong candidate for the job and he still has room to earn it.

Seemed like they ran all day long on us too. It felt like they ran at will.

But I was surprised to see it was 156 yards not 256, which is not great but a lot lower than I thought it would be. And not too bad considering we were in a 4-2 all day.

I just found this by Ross Jackson. Man, 7 week 1 offensive starters have missed a total of 30 games including 3 @ QB. AND the backups to those starters have missed games

Again, I get that the injuries are limiting, but he is inventive in the scripted plays and they are very effective when running those plays. So, he clearly must have enough talent on the field to be effective when off script. But he seems to struggle in those situation and get conservative. And maybe I might think it is just because of the injuries and lack of talent, but he was the same way when he was the OC in Minnesota. People have said maybe that was Zimmer forcing him to be conservative. And maybe DA forced that too, but I doubt Rizzi is doing that. So, he has gotten overly conservative in two jobs with 3 head coaches so at some point, you have to think maybe it's him.

But, again, I think he's a good at designing scheme and game plan. But I think he's only average as a play caller. He's certainly better than Carmichael but I think he has a lot of room for improvement as a play caller.

In the 1st 15 or so scripted plays you establish your O game plan and it's new to the D. Then they get a idea of what you're trying to do. After that is when you build on what was successful and it's harder to be successful doing those same things.
You then rely on the talent to change things up a bit. We saw that in the 1st 2 games when we still had our talent healthy.

24 is going to be a season of what ifs. Mostly what if we had stayed relatively healthy. I'm not a DA fan and knew we would have needed a different HC to really get far, BUT if this team could have stayed healthy I believe we would have won the south and made the playoffs even with DA as HC

I get that it's harder after the scripted plays are done and that's my point. He needs to get better after the scripted plays are done. If he stays hopefully he does get better at it but IMO, right now he's an average play caller after he is done with the script.

Chicken/egg thing...bad teams or bad qb? I tend to think the former, but hey, to each their own.

Agreed. I think as Saints fans, we know what a winning roster looks like…can anyone here honestly say that those Raiders teams were ever truly setup for much success? It’s a player and coach graveyard organization.

Did you know Rizzi was actually advising DA on most of his play calling and decision making. Which means most of what we saw from DA was directly from Rizzi. He said it himself. So don’t expect much from him if this is true. The excitement in change got us those hyped up wins like the beginning of the season… Just saying

I really doubt that Rizzi was helping DA call defensive plays since I doubt he was involved in the defensive game plan. I'd like to see the article or interview where he said that if you can find it
