So what we’d be signing up for is a dead man walking situation - let him fall on his face hard with a more difficult schedule and older, slower team, then fire him mid season and start the rebuild.

I guess that’s palatable to a degree but man, does it ever shine a light on how badly Mickey screwed this up. The most remarkable thing about Payton leaving is how quickly it exposed Loomis as being an awful GM.

The Saints organization already knows that the fan base has turned on Dennis Allen and wants him out… 100% they know it… The Saints have made the decision to not announce their head coach during home game introductions!!! Who does that?!? Who does that and then doubles down on that same head coach and keeps him despite attendance plummeting and boiling rage from the fans???!?

If they keep Dennis Allen going through this offseason and into next season, it is a SLAP IN THE FACE TO EVERY SAINTS FAN.
I’m already done with this version of the Saints… I won’t watch a single game again until DA is out.

I made this argument last year but under the idea that we go through a rebuild this season. There would be nobody better to coach a team going through a rebuild than Dennis Allen because he would lose every game despite trying to win.

The argument is three reasons:

1. This would instantly be the worst situation for a new head coach to come into with 90 million in the hole next year, no QB and an aging roster that will be worse next year.

2. QB-Head coach combination is the most important on a team, I don't think you can hire a head coach until you have the QB to fit what they want to do.

3. You would be firing the new head coach in 2-3 years because this is an impossible situation to win in.

All in all Mickey Loomis is going to turn this franchise into a dumpster fire if he doesn't drastically change his ways.

I am one of DA's biggest haters but you have to let him be the punching bag until this front office cleans up the bones of this team.

All of above pales in comparison with a 3rd disastrous season in a row….and all 3 reasons above talk in absolutes that are simply not ….absolutes….to me the “argument” makes no sense….

Because they kept him for this year, they lost any opportunity at getting Payton in a trade from us. This is just speculation, but I think Payton would have preferred going to the Chargers over Denver.

1. No team looking for a new head coach and staff is in a good situation. Carr is a mid tier QB and has done more through his career than this staff is getting out of him. The next one would have that opportunity.

2. QB-Head coach combo is important only when the HC is also the defacto Offensive Coordinator, not the Defensive Coordinator.

3. You can't know that. Nobody can. People would have said the same thing about Denver. That team, while it has had some really rough games, is heading in the right direction because of coaching. Our team has some really good young players. A good coach could make them better.

I don’t think anyone is arguing that at this point. More like after season concludes.

I've seen several people on here saying that we should keep DA for next year because no good coaches would want to come here next year, but they would the following year, which doesn't even make any sense. Still, I've seen people saying it.

I agree, let's get this bake sale started. New Coach, New QB. Trade a couple players and get some draft picks. Start over with young players that can grow together.

I agree with trading a few players too possibly trading some with larger contracts with us paying some of their contract to get rid of them.

There are no guarantees good or bad, but the odds are not good for some miraculous reversal of fate Sure it would be no-brainer if you’re a one or two win team and the only direction to go is up , but that’s not where we are, at least not yet

That’s bc you are looking at things from surface level. Look deeper. Is this era of NFL catered to offense and is this a passing league? Most certainly it is. How is it possible to go however long we went without scoring a TD? Have you seen bad teams beat good teams? Yes most definitely I have. How come we can’t? How come there are other teams who lost their starting QB or has a garbage QB, sitting at 5-7 wins??? Yet we are sitting at 7 in a garbage division? Why are we stagnant for two years straight? Two consecutive years. Not 1 neutral season, 1 good, then revert back to neutral. Two straight of the same exact thing. It’s clear that the message he sends to our players falls on deaf ears. Why does our best player openly says “we don’t have an identity”, but the coach disagrees? Who are we exactly? If our players don’t know, then our coach doesn’t either. Open your eyes. This team is begging for a new voice

That's exactly why you bring in a good HC , because we have talent that is underperforming . The core of this team is just 3 yrs from a 13 win season . A good confident HC sees that and says " I can get more out of this team"

What are you talking about? 1st, ML inherited Haslett so to tie him to JH is ridiculous because Benson would have made the call to fire him. And the decision to promote DA ( with SP's recommendation ) Is really not that far-fetched at the time. A lot of things were in place. The D was near elite and DA was the DC. PC had been working close to SP and had a yr of calling plays in 2012 and had success on offense. Little did we know that DA could not handle being a HC and PC was not good without Drew. So to a lot of people it made some sense to promote DA. I think ML took too much stock into SP's advice. ML is the same guy that hired SP so he knows what to look for when its a clean slate
