Odds of Rizzi Getting Permanent Job and, If So, What Type of Contract (52 Viewers)

I just can’t think of a time that a coach has come in and kept a staff like that. You see it in college because of recruiting…but not in the NFL. The only way I see these coaches staying is if Rizzi gets the job.
Depends, If we hire an offensive coach KK is gone but maybe not some of the staff. If we hire someone like Glenn or Minter or maybe Vrabel or Flores they might keep KK and the staff.

If Rizzi somehow is retained I sincerely hope he keeps Bryan Young and gets rid of every other defensive coach on the staff

Not all young coaches have a rolodex (for the lack of a more modern term) of assistants on standby. I assume we'll either hire a guy like Vrabel, who will have some guys he can turn to, or a very young coach getting his first shot. That type of coach, especially if he were a defensive minded coach, might think Kubiak and his crew are a better option than what he has access too.

Nevertheless, it's a secondary discussion. the bigger point was that I don't think Rizzi lands the top job because we feel the need to move away from a holdover at the top of the coaching organization.

Well I’m hoping we don’t hire a defensive guy. But let’s say we hire Aaron Glenn. I would expect him to bring someone from that Lions offensive staff as OC.

I would expect Mark Brunell to be the first choice. But if Ben Johnson leaves and Campbell wants Brunell to stay as lions OC he’d probably stay. Maybe someone like Antwan Randle El in that case. I expect the new coach to bring someone he’s familiar with.

Also I don't think there are any other QB coaches because that's where the likely pool of OCs would come from that are better qualified than Kubiak and this staff. If we hire a defensive HC that's not a Vrabel they may very well think that KK and staff is best especially knowing the players we have because we are not going to have a wholesale turnover of the offensive roster.

I mean of all the guys that have been OCs before were fired, if the hot OCs get HC jobs more than likely their next OC will come from within

If Glenn wants to make Randle El our OC I'd say we'll get someone else to be HC. Randle El has only been a WR coach for 4 yrs NEVER called a play in his life or put together an offensive game plan

Yeah what happens that next 3 games will determine alot, if Saints play GB and T Tampa tight, beat LVR. Then I think.he gets it.

I don't think.Loomis is going anywhere. It just seems like there would be smoke if it were the case. You don't even really see people on here calling for his head anymore

So if he beats another bad team, and loses against 2 teams with winning records, he gets it?

How is that any different than what Allen did? Allen beat bad teams at the end of his 2 seasons to get another year. All this is, is more Dennis Allen with some added yelling. We won’t have a defensive minded coach,or an offensive minded coach, but a special teams minded coach. Allen never beat teams he wasn’t supposed to beat. We never overperformed really. That would give Rizzi wins against teams currently picking 1, 5 and 6 in the draft, and the Falcons. While losing to teams who are all currently playoff teams.

I hope for the sake of the franchise they think more of themselves than settling on a special teams coach that was named interim. Rizzi just starts another 2 1/2 year cycle we just got out of with Allen.

The same can be said for most of the people we interviewed for OC last year other than Kubiak. Good, experienced OCs aren’t available they’re all HCs. Which is exactly why we should hire an offensive head coach. Luke Getsy and Brian Johnson were the only other guys we interviewed with coordinator experience. Jerrod Johnson, Greg Lewis, Ronald Curry, Brian Griese were never OCs.

Not true Getsy and Waldron and Brian Johnson had been OCs before

I edited my post. I don’t think we interviewed Waldron. He took the bears job immediately and has since been fired. But do you really want those guys? They were available because they were fired OCs. Jerrad Johnson, Brian Griese, Greg Lewis, Ronald Curry were all interviewed. No OC experience there.

They interviewed Waldron right before he took the Bears job also Brian Johnson was the Eagles OC and Mike Sullivan who took over play calling for the Steelers in 23. Also Getsy who was the Bears OC

Courtesy interview from Waldron. He was going to be with Caleb Williams. Getsy was a college OC for a year or two never NFL.

I just remembered Dan Pitcher and Zac Robinson were also interviewed. Along with Griese, Johnson, Curry, Lewis…that makes six candidates with no OC experience.

Do you really want Luke Getsy or Mike Sullivan though? I don’t. Getsy was fired by the Raiders so he’s available again. I’ll take a chance on someone who can be great over someone that I know isn’t.

It's not about who we wanted it's about what you said . Go look at this link and tell who the Bears OC was in 2022

I can't give odds or contracts and I'm not ready to just hand over the keys to Rizzi. But where does he stand on our HC list? I know people are talking Johnson, Slowick, Vrabel, Glenn, Flores, Cohen and others, but many of these will probably not be coming here. So if these take other HC jobs or refuse the Saints, then at what point do we say Rizzi is the guy? Who has to turn us down for us to go with Rizzi?

I think Rizzi will probably end up on our short list of candidates after the first round of interviews. I would think he ends up #3-5 on that list, and if 1 and 2 get hired somewhere else we throw him a 3 year deal and let him choose a defensive staff.

There is also rumors that wherever Ben Johnson goes Rizzi will be he top choice as ST’s coordinator if he doesn’t get a HC gig.

Three year deal, average of the bottom third of the league in compensation.

Unfortunately for him though, the team’s current injury circumstances are likely going to doom his chances at this. I’m not sure we win another game with this group, much less under the circumstances of already being eliminated from contention.

Interesting. Mark Brunell was named also and has the same NFL credentials (4 year position coach). Why single out Randle El as not qualified?

Most new OCs are that way. How else would one gain the experience unless they get a first opportunity?
