Odds of Rizzi Getting Permanent Job and, If So, What Type of Contract (65 Viewers)

So if he beats another bad team, and loses against 2 teams with winning records, he gets it?

How is that any different than what Allen did? Allen beat bad teams at the end of his 2 seasons to get another year. All this is, is more Dennis Allen with some added yelling. We won’t have a defensive minded coach,or an offensive minded coach, but a special teams minded coach. Allen never beat teams he wasn’t supposed to beat. We never overperformed really. That would give Rizzi wins against teams currently picking 1, 5 and 6 in the draft, and the Falcons. While losing to teams who are all currently playoff teams.

I hope for the sake of the franchise they think more of themselves than settling on a special teams coach that was named interim. Rizzi just starts another 2 1/2 year cycle we just got out of with Allen.
Agree 100% and I'll add that the ATL win only happens b/c Koo had literally the worst game of his career. It wasn't b/c of some brilliant tactical gambit on Rizzi's part. And ATL has since been proven to be a seriously flawed team, too.

I don’t know that we even know who will make the decision. Gayle? Loomis? Will Loomis even be here? If Gayle makes the final call, who will she consult? I was impressed when she sought input from the team leaders when she let DA go. Will the players secretly rally to keep Rizz and or the OC? Or maybe rally for a fresh start? Maybe Drew will be on her “committee?” Too many unknowns. The process will tell us a lot.

I will make a few more assumptions.

First, my odds assume the Saints will go 1-2 over the next three games. If we lose all three, the odds plummet. If we win all three, the odds soar. If we go 2-1, the odds are higher.

Second, as I indicated in my original post, Loomis will likely be picking the next head coach if he remains as GM, and the likelihood is high that he remains GM. Gayle will have to approve, but the Saints are an incredibly insular organization, Gayle already has a relationship on some level with Rizzi, and usually after the season the players rally around and promote the interim coach to get the permanent job. See Antonio Pierce in Las Vegas.

Third, the players should never pick their new coach. It is one thing to listen to what the players have to say. If they say negative things, that's really important and a big red flag. But the players cannot be the dominant voice in the process.

I think Rizzi will get an interview but will only get the gig if our first couple of choices say no.

I feel the same way, I think he has done a good enough job to get consideration, an interview…..but I really want Joe Brady or Johnson…..need an offensive minded coach in today’s NFL IMO…..

If Rizzi gets the win tonight that will cement him as better than anything Allen did in 2 1/2 years.

I do believe Allen during that time only had 1 win vs an opponent w/ a winning record. Rizzin beat ATL earlier
I believe Allen only achieved 1 win in games decided by 3 points or less. Rizzi already has 2
I recall Kamara pointing out that prime games (specifically was talking about Thursday games) are typically won by the team w/ the most energy. If Rizzi gets a primetime win today he'll have again done something that Allen couldn't. Motivate and challenge his team.

He immediately got the passrush on track by relieving Grantham of his duties and promoting Bryan Young.

For me, that also puts him ahead of any 1st time coach you're likely to hire that is an unknown. I say give himi a chance to implement his full program, ESPECIALLY if he pulls of the W tonight vs Greenbay. It's a long shot...and that's why it would cement it for me.

I said all that to say, you can potentially do better than Rizzi...you can also potentially hire another Allen. I'd go w/ Rizz

Theres a lot to counter here. But that win against ATL, they were in the middle of a 4 game losing streak that ultimately led to the demotion of their starting QB. They are also in the NFC South, where no team actually wants to win the division.

The 2 wins that were 3 points of less? 1 was the aforementioned deflated Falcons, the other against the only 13 loss team in the NFL who is picking 1st overall in the draft. Id go far enough to say even Allen usually beat those kind of teams by more than 3 points.

Rizzi is not the guy. All he does is prolong continuity. He resets the 3 years we just got out of. The only way he should even be on the list is with a win tonight. And even then, he should be a long shot.

This is an opportunity to reset the franchise, hire with ambition and go through the necessary growing pains to get back to winning. Rizzi is going to get us to 6-11 to 9-8. He doesnt move the needle from Allen.

There could be about 8 total coaching vacancies at the end of the NFL season, and could be more.
Cowboys, Browns, Jets, Jags, Raiders, Giants, Bears, and the Saints. We're 78 million over budget next year and over 40 Million in dead money. What makes the Saints an attractive franchise? Hopefully, Rizzi is not the best candidate to Interview.

I think he has to beat the packers to have a serious shot so I’m going to say low odds….10%. 3-4 years 4-5mil/year if he did get the job.
Agree and especially if he could do it with a 3rd string QB and replacement players. It would of been awesome to see what he could of done the rest of the year with a somewhat healthy team

I would bet that Loomis will make the decision and will make the hiring with permission from Gayle. If it's done any other way then it would mean Gayle has lost confidence in Loomis and should fire him.

I think the players likely will rally behind Rizzi. They like him and they know him. But I don't think that's the right way to make the choice. Too often players, like everyone else like the status quo and fear change. But sometimes you just have to shake things up. Even if Rizzi is a solid coach, this team needs a fresh start in the worst way. If that's not in the front office then it certainly needs to happen with the coaching staff. The only guys I would consider bringing back from the current staff are Benton, Dennison, Hodges, and Brian Young. And those are all dependent on what scheme we are going to run on either side of the ball.

Still, I think Rizzi has a 60/40 shot at getting the job at this point. And if he does, I think he gets a 4 or 5 years deal. Giving him anything less would send a signal to the players that you don't know if he is the right guy for the job and that's a recipe for failure. How can they respect a guy who is really just a long term interim coach?

It's not about who we wanted it's about what you said . Go look at this link and tell who the Bears OC was in 2022
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Chicago_Bears_season

If you want Luke Getsy and Shane Waldron who have both been fired twice in the last year, they’re available for you. There are no GOOD, experienced OCs out there waiting to be hired. The DCs are always out there. Saleh, Eberfleus. DA. At least three teams are going to get good DCs this offseason. For a good OC, you have to take a risk on an unknown.
