Odds to pick #1: Saints moved from 200 to 1 odds to 26 to 1; Vegas has Saints as 3rd most likely team to select at #1

Would you want Cam Ward at #1?

Need a starting LG, Starting CB, WR3/4, RB2, starting SLB, Edge depth, OL depth, Safety depth and maybe offensive tackle, DT and TE depth.
Not sure I’m blowin* the next 2 yrs draft capital on one guy unless it’s 1983
Outside of LG, all of those positions are depth picks. They can get a starting LG in the 2nd or 3rd. Other key depth can be addressed in FA at any time.

I think a potential franchise QB would be more valuable than drafting players who’ll be 3rd-4th on the depth chart and barely contribute for a while, if at all. They might see Ward as a difference maker at QB, which could change the team’s trajectory more than drafting to potentially fill the depth chart sheet.

But another way to think about it is we'll definitely need a qb next year and just mediocre is $40mil per year. All of those other positions are relatively cheap. Just something to consider when looking for the best value.

This.

It all comes down to your convictions about Ward. Personally, I’d be all-in and make the jump. The last QB I believed in this much was Burrow.

But my job isn’t riding on it.

I wish a stat or a chart existed showing how many times drafting a franchise QB in the top ten picks actually works out. Even without the cost of moving up, it’s a crap shoot.

For the Saints to do this, I would question their sanity. Chicago took Caleb Williams at #1 but should have taken Jayden Daniels. Look at Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson. The list is long for QB's taken early and not worked. QB is not a plug and play position. We can't give away picks in the draft on a QB. This team is at the bottom of the pile and needs to build back through the draft, piece by piece. QB is not one of those positions at the moment .

On the other hand, you take a chance on hiring a young and inexperienced offensive minded coach because you have a lot of confidence in his ability to identify talent and build an offense around those players.

I'm not in love with the idea of trading up for a player in this draft, but I do think Ward is in a class by himself among QB prospects this season, and if the team makes a decision this is their best shot at getting an elite talent at the position, I can understand making the move.

That said, the arguments that can be made for the Saints jumping up to draft Ward can be made for the Titans to stay put and draft him, instead, and I'm leaning towards that happening, when all is said and done.

If we are going to trade up and mortgage future picks.... It better be for what the team sees as a Franchise QB.... So if that's what they do, and Who they see Cam Ward to be... and who they move up to draft... Cool.

Oh... and for the "we have other needs" people... Of course we do! And that has nothing to do with anything if we trade up for a franchise QB. (Not saying I'm convinced that's what he is, but if we do this, that's obviously what the team thinks)

Doing this is an admission that we have more needs than we can possibly fill this year, and we are going to rebuild over time with a young QB.

These odds are irrelevant…

They strictly moved the Saints odds higher due to recent reports such as Cam Ward saying “it’s a dream to play for the Saints”

This is no different than when reports came out that we were talking to Deshaun Watson and Vegas moved the Saints to the overall best odds to sign Watson and we know how that turned out.

Yeah, Cleveland saved us by offering him an insane contract.

i just don’t think they like anyone at 9 so there like might as well give it away with a future first and picks. i just don’t want to if it includes 3 first rounders. if it’s 2 firsts and multiple seconds then why not

I think the stats show that it's a worst 50% for QBs taken in the first round. But, of course, the devil is always in the details depending on what you count as a hit.

At any rate, you can't draft based on the odds established by prior drafts, you draft the guys you like and if you like them enough, you go up and get them if they are a QB you think can be a franchise QB.
