Odds to pick #1: Saints moved from 200 to 1 odds to 26 to 1; Vegas has Saints as 3rd most likely team to select at #1

Would you want Cam Ward at #1?

On the other hand, you take a chance on hiring a young and inexperienced offensive minded coach because you have a lot of confidence in his ability to identify talent and build an offense around those players.

I'm not in love with the idea of trading up for a player in this draft, but I do think Ward is in a class by himself among QB prospects this season, and if the team makes a decision this is their best shot at getting an elite talent at the position, I can understand making the move.

That said, the arguments that can be made for the Saints jumping up to draft Ward can be made for the Titans to stay put and draft him, instead, and I'm leaning towards that happening, when all is said and done.
A prospect means potential and that could be a hit or a misfire. If this trade was to happen, any sign of struggles, the board would say he's in development. The Saints are not in the position anymore to development and wait. We need to draft correctly and hopefully build the team through these picks. Ward maybe good but I don't see that the risk would be worth the reward. Just my two cents.

I get the hesitation... But if they/Moore are sold that he's the quarterback of the future.. I think we probably should just do what we have to do to go get him.
I voted no but I agree. If Moore is sold on him then do whatever you need to do to get your guy. If he is the one that no one will care what we gave up. Now if he's just a guy then we will be lamenting a trade for a long time. And likely have a new coach. But the Titans are gonna take him so it's a moo point (to quote Joey).

If we are going to trade up and mortgage future picks.... It better be for what the team sees as a Franchise QB.... So if that's what they do, and Who they see Cam Ward to be... and who they move up to draft... Cool.

Oh... and for the "we have other needs" people... Of course we do! And that has nothing to do with anything if we trade up for a franchise QB. (Not saying I'm convinced that's what he is, but if we do this, that's obviously what the team thinks)

Doing this is an admission that we have more needs than we can possibly fill this year, and we are going to rebuild over time with a young QB.

And I think what people are missing is that we do have all kinds of needs on this team, but we have no bigger need than for a franchise QB.

For any team that does not have a franchise QB, their biggest need is a franchise QB. If you have that franchise QB, everything else is much easier to do. FAs want to play with franchise QBs, players on your team want to keep playing with franchise QBs, franchise QBs make your team better than the individual pieces, etc.

I'm not sure Ward is that guy, but I think he might be. And, if Moore thinks he is, it's his job on the line. So, if he wants Ward, go get him.

Yeah, I don't think your opinion of this is unreasonable. There is a lot to consider and a lot of different scenarios that can play out this season and in the future. Passing (or missing) on the chance to draft Ward could mean taking a shot at a top QB next year, or taking a flyer on one of the other QBs later in this draft.

I do think if Moore and the front office want the best shot at upgrading QB this year, it's Ward.

I'm okay with however this plays out because the team has a number of needs, so there will be some good opportunities to address those, and I've been open about my interest in seeing Rattler develop. But there's really no denying that Ward has high level attributes, and I think on potential, which is all we have to go on right now, he's the caliber of prospect any team in search of a QB would hope for in any draft.

These odds are irrelevant…

They strictly moved the Saints odds higher due to recent reports such as Cam Ward saying “it’s a dream to play for the Saints”

This is no different than when reports came out that we were talking to Deshaun Watson and Vegas moved the Saints to the overall best odds to sign Watson and we know how that turned out.
I disagree. His response is what any player would say about any team when asked. This movement has to be coming from somewhere else IMO. Vegas doesn't make money by adjusting odds without info the rest of us aren't privy to. It probably won't happen, but the last time I saw a draft bet jump like this was when Kyler Murray's odds of being drafted #1 shot up from like 30 to 1 to off the board. Kingsbury was hired and had said when he was still coaching in college that he'd take Murray #1 overall if he were an NFL coach.

As far as the Watson one, we were in it until the end. They weren't wrong, they adjusted the likelyhood of it happening in real time. Same here. The chance we are trying to move up is a lot more likely now than it was a week ago. Not saying I agree with it. Is what it is.

I guess I'll repost this for giggles, here's a stat for y'all: if the goal is to win a SB, this century, only the Chiefs (Mahomes) and the Colts (P. Manning) have won SBs with the QB they drafted within the 1st 10 picks in the draft; and more FA QBs have won SB's than #1-#10 picks with the teams that drafted them.

That's it right there, it doesn't matter what we think.

If Moore has a vision that he can be the franchise guy for him, go for it.

I wouldn't do it, and I don't think Tennessee will, either..... UNLESS Tennessee rolls the dice that we're going to stink this year and give them a high #1 pick in next year's draft.

For the Saints to do this, I would question their sanity. Chicago took Caleb Williams at #1 but should have taken Jayden Daniels. Look at Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson. The list is long for QB's taken early and not worked. QB is not a plug and play position. We can't give away picks in the draft on a QB. This team is at the bottom of the pile and needs to build back through the draft, piece by piece. QB is not one of those positions at the moment .
But Cam Ward is in no way comparable to Bryce Young or Anthony Richardson. Caleb Williams would be the closest but even he wasn't this highly regarded. Especially mentally.

Williams was way more highly regarded than Ward, so much so that Payton said they would need a NBA type lottery so teams wouldn't lose games to get him

Are you saying Caleb Williams wasn't as highly regarded as Cam Ward? Caleb Williams buries any QB in this class. He was the consensus #1 over Jayden Daniels and Jayden Daniels easily buries any QB in this class.

Have to disagree on Williams. He hasn’t lived up to the hype so far but he was hyped big time.
