NFL Draft Ohio State QB Will Howard (5 Viewers)

Skattebo will be very lucky to even make a NFL roster out of Training Camp! He’s a good CFB RB but his game won’t translate at all! He’s seriously not even as good as Cody Schrader was for Mizzou last year!… and Schrader is a PS guy now at best!

I like the Skatts story, but let’s be real.

He’s a 4th round flier or later, and likely never plays a meaningful down in the pros
I wish he could bulk up more and become a mini Mike Alstott

His decision making seems almost robotic at times. It doesn’t seem like he’s reading the defense but rather just waiting for the play to develop and that will get you killed in the NFL. His footwork stinks too for someone with that many games under his belt.

He looks like he has zero pocket awareness and his throwing motion/release point is awkward and super low.

The more I see Gabriel play, the better he looks. The guy is a ball mover with a decently strong arm and what looks like pin point accuracy. My only concern is his size. It could be too much for him to overcome. Brees did, but just because he did doesn’t mean others can.

If Gabriel somehow is available in the 5th round, I would be pretty happy with the idea of taking a flier on him. He has such good finesse on his passes and it seems as if he’s pretty good at reading defenses, and has really good pocket presence.

A lot of batted down balls in the game yesterday. Crazy he was considered a first rounder not that long ago.

He's a better pro prospect than Spencer Rattler.

His size, arm, and pocket presence are legitimate strong points. And I don't think the thing about the screen pass is really fair. He lit up Oregon the week before with deep balls.

I don't know exactly where to slot him, but I bet he ends up a 3rd rounder at least, and I'd take him as a prospect over spending our 1st on a QB. I think we're taking a QB at some point in this draft.
Saying he’s a better pro prospect than a 5th rounder isn’t saying much. Not when the OP said he thinks he’s the best QB prospect in this draft.

What is his game missing that makes him a pro prospect? Please point out a moment over his last three games to illustrate your point.

“Projects as a developmental day three selection.”
“ Lower body mechanics lack consistency on dropbacks, can get heel-clicky when climbing the pocket.”
“Will be 24 as a rookie and viewed as a prospect who is near his ceiling.”
“Limited second-reaction creativity.”
“Sporadic ball placement.”
“Processing speed dips against exotic pressure packages”

Howard's 2024 tape requires careful parsing - while his statistical production impressed, context matters. Operating behind NFL-caliber protection with elite weapons, 40.4% of his attempts went to wide-open targets. The Rose Bowl performance validated his ceiling as a rhythm passer, but lingering mechanical inconsistencies and processing limitations against pressure suggest a high-end backup projection.

His ideal role would be backing up an established starter.”

That's old and that report is more fitting to when he started the season. He made a good amount of strides throughout the season and became a better QB, the final product being what we've seen in the playoffs. He's not dominating these defenses but he's absolutely playing well against NFL talent.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see in him go in the early 2nd or late 1st if he has a good combine/senior bowl. But he's not a rookie starter. He should definitely sit for a year.

They’re not old. The first mentions his rose bowl performance and the second is from mid-November.

No one is doubting he has some tools. It’s the notion that he’s one of the top QBs in the draft that’s getting pushback. He’s simply not, for all the reasons mentioned there.

I'm not sure I agree with that. I get why they say it, but last year should've been quite humbling. Everyone was off on Bo Nix by a mile. Even Penix Jr to a fair degree and vastly overrated Caleb Williams.

Not sure I agree on any of those. Plenty of people had both Nix and Penix rated as a mid-late 1st or 2nd.

And Caleb Williams has shown plenty of ability in a dysfunctional organization and coaching staff.

He could be a bust (50% or higher are) or he could be Mike Alstot. Never know!!
