Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart rising up the boards? (4 Viewers)

It’s a little concerning that in a weak QB class that he is QB3. If he’s not better than Sanders or Ward, I’d pass and roll with Rattler another season.
FWIW, Dart & Rattler have pretty similar draft grades on NFL.com. I realize it doesn’t mean a hill of beans, but it is interesting to know that the same basic grade that makes you a fifth round pick last year would be a second round pick this year.

Or higher

Beware the 'late riser' prospect. Teams can kid themselves based on need and recency bias.

Remember when Zach Wilson made a couple of combine throws that suddenly 'elevated' his stock?

The scouts of each NFL team build up their files on these prospects over a few years, refining their grades as they get closer to graduation/declaring for the draft. The concept of late risers and fallers has always felt to me to be mostly the domain of draft media creating frama* and foolish teams that don't trust their own scouting.

* Fake Drama = the draft media needs fresh stories for clicks. If they reported that most teams had pretty much finalised who they wanted and where, weeks or indeed months before draft day, where would they get their breathless updates about player X from?
This. I really do not want us to reach because that doesn't end well for us. We don't have to address the QB position this year with Carr and Ratt on the roster. You know what you have with Car a stable NFL vet and Ratt is a developmental prospect. For example, Sean used his first year to evaluate whether Russ would work and traded him away after deciding he didn't fit. I don't know how Moore wants to approach year one but I would prefer if we were in a position to draft a qb high next year and mot reach this reach year.

I still like the potential in Rattler. The last home against the raiders, there were 3 or 4 throws that if he released a tiny hair sooner, they are great plays. One was a deep comeback on the sideline right in front of me. The kind of throw Brees turned into routine. It would also help if he had a couple legit receivers and better route runners to work with.
Went back and read several draft reports on Rattler. They all said he had 2/3 round talent. What pulled him down was that incident he was involved in high schoot.
Keep in mind he beat out Caleb at OU at the beginning of 2022. Not saying he’s better than Caleb but he’s not far off in talent either. Needs a good qb coach to bring him along.

There was another qb from Purdue drafted in early 2000’s whose arm strength was questionable.

People keep saying this, but many other QBs with questionable arm strength have never made it. In addition, Brees' arm actually got stronger after his major shoulder injury because he worked with a trainer strengthening his shoulder and correcting his throwing motion. Who knows what he would have been had he not gotten that injury and increased his arm strength.

Jayden Daniels wasn't very good at Arizona State. Spencer Rattler wasn't very good at USC either lol and people here want to hand him a franchise QB job uncontested.

Nobody said to hand him the "franchise" QB job uncontested. People want to give him a shot to see IF he is a franchise QB. Nobody is saying that he is or that we should continue to try to upgrade the QB position if we can.

And Bo Nix wasnt very good at Auburn

Yes, but Nix was great at Oregon and Daniels was great at LSU. Dart was very mediocre at Ole Miss until his last year when he had a good year. But that Ole Miss team was loaded with weapons that they bought in the portal and that offense makes a lot of mediocre QBs look great at times.

It’s extremely common to see the cut Carr + don’t draft QB take. That’s worse than taking the Raiders strategy from last year. We have to at least find an affordable FA or draft someone like Dart this year.

I’ve watched Dart a lot and this “late riser” in the media isn’t some con. They’re just slow and FOTM reporting always and sometimes, downright dumb. Darts throws were usually very good in college and always had good decision making. He could also go through reads.

I remember back in December wondering why he wasn’t getting more talk. Early January, I watched so many videos of his games and grew more found of him. You can check my history but about a couple of weeks prior to senior bowl I replied how much he’s growing on me as a prospect and that he’ll sneak into the first round Bo Nix style. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes top 10.

Now being successful is a different story. He needs a QB whisperer, offensive genius to groom him and put him up for success similar to what Payton did for Bo Nix. If he goes to the Giants, Dart will be unsuccessful generally speaking. But if he goes to say the Vikings, or Saints if they get Kellen Moore he’ll start off looking better than or at least as good as Carr with much more upside. I have a feeling the Raiders may also be a good spot for him.

And yes. He’s already a much better QB than Sanders will ever be. Sanders before the 3rd round is a dang crime. One akin to being about as dumb as hiring Dennis Allen to a 2nd head coaching gig.
