WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. David Vitter, R-La., apologized Monday night for "a very serious sin in my past" after his telephone number appeared among those associated with an escort service operated by the so-called "D.C. Madam."

Vitter's spokesman, Joel Digrado, confirmed the statement in an e-mail sent to The Associated Press.

"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said in the statement. "Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there - with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way."

The Republicrat slime machine continues to claim its victims. ;)

Oh, Boy... How come he's the only one who's come clean?? There's got to be plenty more. Interesting,, though- I used to see Vitter at the CC's Coffee House on Metairie Rd. with his little girl; seemed like a pretty hardcore family man- guess you never know......

It's not exactly "coming clean" when you're caught. So much for family values!!

Bring it on. Something to get people riled up at the state of things....

Vitter is "sorry" -- only because he got caught.

Congratulations, DV, you're now officially in the company of Jimmy Swaggert in Louisiana history!

Vitter is helping Louisiana make sure that our politicians continue to have the great reputation around the country that they deserve.:mwink:

Wow, on the eve of a major report to Congress about how Iraq is coming along, a Republican starts jumping up and down shouting "LOOK AT ME, I HAD A HOOKER!"

What an amazing coincidence.

Someone I used to work with told me several years ago that Vitter was screwing around. I didn't really know what to think at the time, or why he supposedly knew that, but he obvoiusly did know something, somehow.

can we all just say that if you are a public figure and are wagging your finger at everyone else it's a pretty good indication that you're hiding something

- Interesting point; honestly, though, I can't see this pulling much attention away from the report that Iraq has met zero benchmarks- the words "Philandering Politician" are redundant...
