Oops, that's my number (Senator Vitter)[MULTI-MERGED] (5 Viewers)

Its always "do as I say, don't do as I do" with ANY public official or all the "Jimmy Swaggerts, and Jesse Jacksons' of the world.

He might be a fine family man, I dont know.

To me, if you're sneaking around with freaking hookers, then the term "fine family man" automatically does not apply to you. Committing adultery and providing terrible embarrassing examples of family values to your children makes him an inept father and husband. Maybe my bar is just too high. Maybe cheating/divorce/whatever is just so commonplace nowadays (especially where politics is involved) that people just don't care all that much anymore.

I think this guy is a fraud, a hypocrite, and a shame to our state.

Yet another nonissue. It is interesting how judgemental towards this issue our country is. Is this not an issue between him and his wife? Why does it all get thrown out and make him look like some evil person? I highly doubt it was one time, and I highly doubt he has changed. But, what he does inhis personal life does not reflect on his ability to lead. Affairs are very common, and especially so at upper levels of power. As far as I remember the last truely good person we had as president was Carter. Wonderful man, terrible president. The most corrupt was Clinton, although Bush is giving him a heck of a run and will probably beat him when all is said and done will be the best at that.

There is something about Washington, I don't know what it is, that gives all these people the feeling that they can do anything and get away with it. That being said, this is probably more something to be dealt with within his family, unless he was whispering state secrets to the hooker. One of my saddest days was Bob Livingston's resignation on the eve of his becoming House Speaker. I know the guy personally and it hit me like a punch to the gut. It's the power, I guess. It makes them all mad.

Which is why you need to question their judgement when they are benefitting from relationships with special interests.

They can all too easily cross a line at some point, after which they are no longer really representing YOU, no matter the content of their speeches.

All the more true of the man in the White House.

The DC Madam must be part of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy™. :9:

While I'm not ringing the tinfoil hat alarm just yet, here's a link to ABC news original response to the released phone numbers of the DC madam...

But there were no members of Congress or White
House officials traced through Palfrey's records.

So either 20/20 is staffed by incompetents that could figure out that on that list is an office phone # to a sitting Senator, or they're in on the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy™.

Here's the other thing, who 'busted,' Vitter? I haven't seen one story on who put it all together. The only thing I've seen is Vitter making a statement apologizing for it.

And ALL this right before the report to Congress on Iraq.

It doesn't have to be part of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy™, you know. It really sounds like the work of some slippery, underhanded, and ethically challenged, political strategist, who would probably be working in the White House and wanted to distract from the upcoming report. And none of us know anyone like that, do we?

I, at least, hope Vitter was well compensated for falling on this one.

I didnt care when Bill was with Monica and dont care that Vitter was with some high class ho's. Do you care if the CEO of a major corporation is cheating on his wife?

The fact is, politics is a major business. Does anyone truely believe whats being spewed out by candidates during elections? Who cares if Vitter was running on family values, we should know that all he was doing was telling us what was needed so he could move up in the political world.

If he does good by Louisiana, he can keep sleepin with as many hookers as he woud like.

That is the only thing that upsets me, the fact that he was preaching that garbage while he was fooling around.

That's my whole issue with it. Just another politician that can't tell the truth. Not as bad as Mr. money in my freezer, obviously, but still sad IMHO.

Question: Is it against the law to solicit prostitution? Did David Vitter break the law? Should he be re-elected? Was the hooker a legal resident at the time? meh.

Serious question, and I'm not trying to pin it on you as I am sure lots of people are going to have the same initial response, but: What are the chances that someone who says "big deal" in regards to Vitter never raised a stink about Clinton's similar actions?

I am sure very low. I was one who looked at what Clinton did and said "big deal". I am not married to him and he hurt me in no way by doing it. The problem I had was the lying to a grand jury. It was sex, own up and move on. If his wife is OK with it (or if she isn't) is none of my business. Just drop the family man and family values crap. Tell me what you are going to do for me and my state and keep your family life out of it. I don't care if you take your kids to the park or you think your wife is the best in the world. All irrelevent to you getting my vote. Never have I voted for someone because he posed with his family and said "family values is what I stand for". As long as you don't beat your wife or chain your kids in the basement, I don't care. Maybe I am wrong for thinking that way.:dunno:

Thats one of the Major problems with politics today, it is NOT supposed to be a major bussiness. The last time I checked, Bussiness' don't change because the employee's aren't happy with the way the company is run.
The government is SUPPOSED to change when the people aren't happy. Do you really want the government ran like Wal-Mart?

As bad as things may get for Vitter, at least he isn't in Iran:

Iran said on Tuesday that a man convicted of adultery had been stoned to death in a village in northwestern Iran, the first time it has confirmed such an execution in five years.

So, basically, your gig is that you think it's our job to bring the entire world into the 21st century, right?

Send in a viceroy, re-write their laws, teach them how to live, show them the secular path?

That's the only point I'd imagine you could be getting at in a roundabout way by bringing Iran and Islam into a thread about David Vitter.
