Oops, that's my number (Senator Vitter)[MULTI-MERGED] (3 Viewers)

While I'm not ringing the tinfoil hat alarm just yet, here's a link to ABC news original response to the released phone numbers of the DC madam...

So either 20/20 is staffed by incompetents that could figure out that on that list is an office phone # to a sitting Senator, or they're in on the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy™.

Here's the other thing, who 'busted,' Vitter? I haven't seen one story on who put it all together. The only thing I've seen is Vitter making a statement apologizing for it.

And ALL this right before the report to Congress on Iraq.

It doesn't have to be part of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy™, you know. It really sounds like the work of some slippery, underhanded, and ethically challenged, political strategist, who would probably be working in the White House and wanted to distract from the upcoming report. And none of us know anyone like that, do we?

I, at least, hope Vitter was well compensated for falling on this one.

How about that 'liberal' media???

Chance to expose a Republian Senator and they pass it up?

Media ain't nearly "independent."

Media isn't liberal nor conservative. Media is cash oriented. Fox makes a lot of money aiming their news at a certain demographic the same as all the so called liberal biased media.

If you go with the politically biased media theory, would that make 20/20 biased to the right? They got to comb over that list and just happened to miss the fact that a sitting Republican Senator's office phone number was on there.

And if someone in the media had been the one to figure it all out, you'd be hearing all about it on their channel, something to the effect of "CBS News crack investigative team has learned tonight...yadda yadda yadda."

This one just stinks to me.

The big stink about Clinton, wasn't so much that he and Monica did stuff, it was that he lied about it under oath while he was defending himself in a sexual harassment suit with another woman.

Some of y'all act as if you haven't done anything wrong, ever. The man got caught having sex. Oooohhhh, bad boy. I guess it would have been better had the feds found cash in his freezer, at least he would have been re-elected.:9:

Besides the fact that this is now common knowledge, Vitter confessed to his wife years ago and underwent counseling. This matter is really between him, his wife and God. Just like he said. Does this take away from his "family values" message? Yes, but it doesn't hurt me if he fools around on his wife. To me, this is no news, just like Clinton having sex with Monica. If that is what he wants to do, fine. Just don't preach family values to me if that is what you want. That is the only thing that upsets me, the fact that he was preaching that garbage while he was fooling around.

Hey DD, as for the reference to Swaggert. The difference is Vitter went with some high class hooker......um....escort, whereas Swaggert went with dirty, unkempt, $10.00 ho's.:hihi:

He allegedly solicited prostitutes in New Orleans and Washington, D.C.. I might not feel betrayed by his actions, but this certainly hurts Louisiana's clout in the Senate.

SF11, do you happen to have a bigger picture? Couldn't really see much of anything in that one...

My original post was intended to be tongue-in-cheek, SW. :hihi:

And as cynical as I am of the media, I don't think this episode is due to complicity but rather to complacency. Or just pure incompetence.

Having sex is not necessarily breaking the law. Soliciting prostitution is breaking the law. Senators should not get to choose which laws they break and which ones they don't.

There is so much free action in this town that one does not pay for the sex. One pays for the silence.

This individual kept her list as an instrument of extortion. Frankly i think the dignitaries paid for the silence the first time, and she should be charged with extortion.

She would have kept everything secret if only her clients would have stepped up to pay her legal bills. Hah. well honey, the rules of the game don't go that way. pay to play.

For the record, i cannot stand Vitter, i never could stand Vitter; seeing his image makes me want to go get clean. i hope the GOP sends Jindal to thrash Vitter with his own Senate chair. Vitter is an embarrassment to the state AND the GOP. Don't waste Jindal on the governorship. Send him to Senate and send Vitter to K Street where he belongs.

Yeah, I googled her and the Senator has a big photo album on his website. If anyone knows how to link pictures that don't magically quadruple in size, they can try.

Whew! At least he was going for adult women, not underage pages.

David Vitter is the champion of the anti-gambling lobby and has repeatedly blocked any efforts to open new casinos in the state.

He also accepted Jack Abramoff's money on behalf of the Coushatta Tribe, Grand Casino Coushatta, to block the Jena Choctaw from getting a casino.

But, he says he blocked the Jena Choctaw because of moral concerns, not because he was bought off by another tribe that didn't want the competition. Right.

So, in keeping with his record, just because he uses the services of prostitutes, that doesn't mean he favors legalizing prostitution. Right?

Very possibly, but the fact that Vitter outted himself with his statement after the media supposedly went over the list of numbers and found nothing makes little sense. It just looks like a "Hey everyone, look over there at the bearded lady while I sneak this bit of lousy news past you," kind of thing.

Now, on the other hand, if the parties were reversed, and a Dem were sitting in the White House, I'd think the same thing. Politico's are slimy no matter what party is backing them.

there were definitely rumors about him in particular with regards to the NEW ORLEANS madame back in the day.

Apples vs. oranges. Clinton's biggest problem wasn't having sex with Monica. Clinton's 2 big problems were: 1) having sex with an intern ultimately under his employ, and 2) lying about it under oath to a Grand Jury.

True. I guess you didn't notice that Vitter's main crime wasn't sex either. Prostitution is like kinda illegal.

The thing is, I've always heard that people /expect/ the Republicans they elect to get involved with money scandals and Democrats to get involved with sex scandals.

Between paying hookers for sex and his links to the Abramoff money scandal that DD references, Vitter manages to do both.

Between Jefferson and Vitter, Louisiana seems to be trying to prove that federal money sent to its GOP or Democrats is ultimately going to be stolen or wasted by corrupt, sleazy pols.

For everyone who hates Mary Landrieu, you should realize that she's currently the only Louisiana politician that people outside of the state might recognize who's not basically tied up in a scandal (Vitter, Jefferson), imprisoned (Edwards, Duke) or viewed as Bush-level incompetent (Blanco, Nagin).
