Pat Kirwan said he heard Carr didn’t want to do Saints contract restructure (32 Viewers)

Treat it how you want, but this is now the fourth or fifth person to report this or something similar. Florio, Breer, Underhill/Triplett, and Kirwin all have reported similar things. Apparently Carr preferred to be cut or traded and was willing to waive his no trade clause. The Saints asked him to take a pay cut but he refused and indicated that he would rather go. But, Moore wants him to start at least this year so the Saints did the standard restructure which they can do without his consent. I can't swear that the details are correct but 4 to 5 sources have now reported something similar so it seems pretty clear that Carr doesn't really want to be here and he's here because Moore wanted him as his starter this year. I'm sure Carr will still play his best, but it appears that he would rather be playing some place else.
I'm sure there were discussion about the future but it's been stated for quite a while Carr would be the QB. The idea that he was blind sided by this, still wants out and didn't know what a restructure was all seems pretty ridiculous to me.

He already had 1 foot out the door when Allen got fired. Can't say I blame him for feeling blindsided. I honestly thought he would be gone and I guess the feeling is mutual.

Unfortunately for him, they needed to do what they needed to do open up cap space to be players in free agency.

Then again, he had to have known this becuase he got restructured last year on Feb 23 2024....so it was the exact same thing. Something doesn't add up.
It’s possible he didn’t understand it last year. The money still gets paid out on the same schedule, it just gets a new name for salary cap purposes. In 2024, he would have received the same $30m spread out over the regular season with or without restructuring.

I didn't say he was blind sided or that he doesn't know what a simple restructure was or that it wasn't coming. I'm just telling you want 4 or 5 people have reported about Carr not really wanting to be here, but he will be here because Moore wants him as his starting QB. You can choose to believe those 4 or 5 people or not.

The job of succeeding any legend in any team sport is a tough one. I wouldn't want to follow Brees, either.

I have a hard time believing a player suddenly didn't understand a contract after having played in the NFL since 2014 like Carr has done.

The middle rounds of the draft might tell the tale of what actually happens here. Do we take a mid-round flyer on someone like Quinn Ewers? Jaxson Dart? Or any of the other mostly-mid QBs coming out this year? Or do we let Rattler essentially have the backup job before the weather turns hot (consistently)?

Fair, still think it's funny. Dude has definitely earned his standing in this city. Fans aren't just gving him a hard time just to give it to him...he worked hard on it. Regardless, as was mentioned in the other thread, it's still possible for him to be traded. Still possible for Saints to move up and draft a QB and have he and Rattler compete after trading Carr.

all options are on the table, but for now we'll just assume Carr is the starter and go from there. We can win with him and ultimately all I care about is winning.

He wants to win, team wants to win, and they don't have to be in love w/ each other to do it.
