Penning isn’t getting his job back is he (2 Viewers)

Penning should be moved to guard. He played that in college, also. Let him compete for a job there opposite Ruiz next season and get training there. He will be more valuable as a backup if he is trained at both positions. It’s too difficult to go from Central Michigan, take a year off, and then be thrown into the NFL as a starting left tackle.

I always wondered why Peat didn’t slide to RT after Strief retired. Then the team drafted Ramczyk and he was a natural at RT, so keeping Peat off the spot made sense.
Ramczyk was drafted before Strief retired. Strief was injured in Week 1 of 2017 (which Ramczyk started the game at LT because Armstead was on the PUP to start the season after a minicamp injury).

After Strief returned a few weeks later and sustained another injury, Ramczyk took over at RT full time and never gave the job back.

0 sacks today. Carr is a completely different QB with a healthy, steady O-Line.
Just for clarification. The Bears are the worst team in the league at getting to the QB (sacks & pressures).
But, you are correct as we didn't give up a sack. Hopefully it's a trend that continues because we were on a historic pace for allowing sacks on our QB.

When Penning was drafted and they went over his strengths. Mauler needs work as a pass blocker. I was screaming RT or OG because usually your weaker pass blocker like Zach play the right side or guard where you can cover up their pass blocking.

Someone on this forum might currently be a better LT than Penning right now. I hope he figures it out, but it’s not happening this season

You can find guys to slide to guard who were collegiate tackles (Jahri Evans, Carl Nicks) but 6’7” 315 doesn’t seem like the physical profile of a guy you convert.
Ramczyk was Strief's back up in training camp in 2017 IIRC.

Strief got hurt. Ramczyk stepped in and took every snap at RT that year.

Ramczyk is fading though and I think the Saints may want to move on from his contract or ask him to take a pay cut.

He may be better inside where he does not have the edge going against him as he's never really displayed the feet to play tackle but as you stated being a mauler is what you look for in an inside guy and he has great size for a guard.

Well, it took nearly a decade but Peat has finally taken the LT job (that shouldn’t have been given to anyone else post TA). It’s refreshing seeing a guy play his natural position, and solve an issue for us.

Expect him to come back next year, and have to fight for the LT spot.
You’re probabaly right. DA didn’t hesitate. It’s ok tho, whenever Penning eventually does get another chance, he’ll have learned exactly how he needs to play. LT is not a learn-on-the-job position. And you can’t mix him in like we do Kendre Miller.

He’s not. He’s finally where he was supposed to be cause he played LT in college. For some reason they thought he was a guard, but he has really held up at LT. Destiny is finally here. Not even DA could defeat the Who Dats today.

I don't think anyone thought he was a guard. We had Armstead at LT. They thought Peat would be able to play RT. He couldn't so he became LG.

He’s a Guard. It’s the last time I’m gonna say it…. Or not.
I agree 100%. Sadly, as of now, Penning isnt who we thought he was. Wanna say he could be like Peat, but i personally think Peat is better in every way. Penning’s closer to a Modern day version of former Raider 1st RDer Robert Gallery. A buster OT, who could end up being a pretty solid OG.
