Penning isn’t getting his job back is he (1 Viewer)

I don't think anyone thought he was a guard. We had Armstead at LT. They thought Peat would be able to play RT. He couldn't so he became LG.
He was placed at Guard to get the bests 5 on the field, its not anymore difficult to play LT than RT if you have the ability, Penning is showing an inability to play the Tackle position which is why some are suggesting a switch inside but Peat always had it but those spots were occupied so they slide him inside to get the best 5 on the field.

Some people struggle switching sides because everything is backwards to them. Peat was drafted to play RT and struggled there so he was moved to LG.

Peat did struggle a bit, but part of it was that he couldn’t join the team until Stanford’s academic term ended so he was behind on days/reps and conditioning. Strief, meanwhile, was a second team all-pro RT in 2013 (and should have been again in 2014) but knew Peat would take his job eventually. As it went, 2015 was very hard on Strief, and logically it would have been a good time to move Strief to OL6, Peat to RT, and invest in the interior OL, but that wasn’t how the plan went. Strief was kept for another season and Peat remained at LG while the team had a rare draft in which no OL were selected.

Andrus Peat is 30yr old and in the last year of his contract with 13.6M in dead cap. He looks better than Hurst or Penning at LT. The Saints will sign him to another 3-4yr deal if his play holds up. You can’t pay all 5 OL. Penning or another cheap FA/rookie will have to start next year.
