Per Nick Underhill, M. Thomas and M.Davenport starting TC on the PUP list. Doesn't expect them to stay on it for very long. (1 Viewer)

I heard it from Mike D. on WWL. He also said something about PUP listings having to be in today, Maybe if it something longer he would go on IR. In pre-season though PUP list comes first then IR I believe.

The real news here is Taysom Hill and Payton Turner did not show up on the PUP list. The fact that CGM and Davenport did, is hardly news. With the investment we have in these guys is so great...................why wouldn't the Saints slow roll their recovery? We will just have to wait it out.

I'm not going to freak out but I'm not going to pretend like this isn't cause for pause. The fact that Michael Thomas is still not 100% is crazy to me. It seems like he's been gone for 5 years.

As far as Dav goes, he's always going to be dealing with some sort of injury or malady. He's just one of those players. I call them Can't Get Right guys. Their bodies can't handle football. At the other end of the spectrum you have guys like Cam Jordan and Will Smith who bang out season after season relatively healthy.

I'm not sure how PUP and IR work for training camp and preseason, what is shocking to me is Hill's recovery time if he is in fact "ready" for camp. That seems really rushed considering even the best case scenarios I saw predicted didn't have Hill healthy until late August/September. It will be awesome if he is ready to go though and also explain why the Saints didn't rush out to grab a Tight End.

You're making too much sense.

Let me know when NASA develops a telescope that can see so far in the past that I can watch Michael Thomas play live on a jumbo screen TV, from a planet I dont know, in a game Ive already seen.

I hope the guy comes back with the same intensity and close to the level he used to be, but he is a 29 year old WR now. Time isnt on his side if there is another setback. Just nuts that he has missed the better part of 2 years with a high ankle sprain and starting the 3rd season on PUP.

It really is nuts. I'm not a doctor but it seems like injuries usually heal or they don't. You get hurt and heal up or it doesn't heal right and you learn to live with it. It's fine for a normal person to have a bum ankle or knee that gives them issues from time to time but for a pro ball player, I don't know. Maybe a fully healed, 100% Michael Thomas isn't something we will ever see again. That's a sad thought and everyone wants to act like everything is fine but at this point it's definitely a concern for me.

Sadly I agree with this. There was obviously a lot more damage than was initially let on, and the cause for the second surgery whatever it was, must’ve been pretty severe.

Kinda like Davenport. Since they had to take the finger, I’m wondering if that finger didn’t start some kind of serious system wide infection where he is having to come back from that. I can’t imagine a tip of a finger keeps anyone out for long if all else was good.

It should be a concern for everyone, especially considering the guaranteed money invested in MT that creates a huge cap drain.

Don’t worry about the posters that give grief for posters that simply pass on factual news related to PUP. The culture here is definitely on the rah rah black and gold sunshine pumping news only.

I have wish their view of the Saints was accurate as we’d have a lot more than 0 appearances in the Super Bowl the last 12 years.

I'm all for pumping some sunshine. I've pumped more than my fair share over the years. But sometimes I just can't find a way to put a positive spin on things. Michael Thomas being placed on the PUP list in July shouldn't be a big deal but considering the guy has been dealing with this injury for the past seven years, yeah, it concerns me.

Sometimes the glass isn't half full or half empty. Sometimes it's just a glass with nothing in it.

At this point Thomas is an empty glass, I agree fully. There is nothing there to show any sort of half filled feelings. It’s empty until he actually gets on a field and produces if he can. No one knows that yet. If there is too much damage to that ankle, he’s done. If it’s healed and they just taking it easy to build up strength and confidence in it ok then we will see. But I highly doubt he’s back next year when his contract numbers explode.

I have a feeling there’s a lot more to these two stories that we as fans do not know. With Thomas was there some kind of infection that destroyed some tissue? Were the tendons damaged far more than people have let on? Same with Davenport. Amputating a finger due to a plate isn’t a reason for pup. How bad was that infection? What did he go through to still need to be physically limited?
