Pickett at 16? (3 Viewers)

It wouldn't make us better this year, and I think we're a couple of players away from contending (assuming a healthy roster). I'd rather hit on 2 or 3 picks in areas of need and see how far this team can go.

I'd be upset. We have Jameis for 2 years and to reach on a guy with question marks could simply mean that you spent a 1st on a QB and in 2 years you may still need one and be spending a 1st or more again. Either that or sign an expensive FA.

It makes more sense to me to roll with Winston for this year, draft a LT and WR this year, and if Jameis plays poorly then draft someone next year and your rookie has good receivers and a LT to keep him clean in his first season. No rookie will play for us this year so why trot Jameis out there without 1st round talent at LT or WR so some kid who may not even be good can sit on the sidelines.

Also, 2 years from now players like CAM & DD will be older and maybe you can roll with a rookie in a rebuild kind of scenario. But I don't want to waste their last good years developing a QB. If the Saints wanted to do that I don't think we would have signed Jameis in the first place.

I’d be okay with it if the saints staff have a vision and plan for him. Next season’s draft is out unless CSP coaches again and we get someone s 1st. Worst case scenario is Winston holds down the QB spot and the rook sits a year and learns. Trade Winston after the season and get what you can for him since he’s on a 2yr deal.

You only draft the highest ceiling prospect at 16 in our position not the highest floor.

I don't see Pickett being the highest graded prospect at 16. I do at 19th, tho.

I'm not one to criticize draft picks. I sit back and watch the drama unfold (it can really be over the top sometimes). Mainly I'll just deep dive on the player after we draft him. So I would be cool with this, but maybe not the best to ask.

Yeah, this makes sense to me. The argument has often been that if we don't take a QB this year, we don't have a 1st to take one next year. But, just like taking one now if they think there is a franchise QB might make sense because it's a decision about the next 10 years, it also means you don't force a QB pick just to hedge your bet when you can draft one in two years when your defense is older and it makes more sense to rebuild for the long haul.

So, I think starters at two positions, hopefully a LT and WR with the right value falling, makes the most sense.

That being said, if they do think Pickett is the guy and equal to Winston now and will be better, I would understand taking him at 16, even if I don't think he is the guy.

Which one of you is going to break into the restricted area, run to the podium, fart on Goodell, grab the mic, and say "No! Not Pickett! Mickey, pick again!'
