Pickett at 16? (1 Viewer)

We will know in 29 hours. I believe all regular posters are on record of how they feel.

We have a shot at getting past Tampa and winning it all. Brady and Tampa Bay has a losing record against us. We're only missing 3 or 4 players.

#16 - BPA
#19 - BPA
#49 - BPA
#98 - BPA
#120 - BPA
#161 - BPA
#194 - BPA

But tweak it a little bit. Make sure somewhere there's a stud WR (or two). And a RB to cover Kamara's suspension. That's all we're missing really.

I guess we are going to find out tomorrow night... I don't see us winning this division or making a deep playoff run with our current QB situation. I think we are a borderline playoff team, and that's only if our defense performs close to the level they did last year, the QB doesn't turn the ball over, our O-line stays healthy, and we don't lose Kamara for more than 4 games.

We were a borderline playoff team last year with none of that happening.

We also had Sean Payton (HOF Coach), Marcus Williams (Ball Hawk Safety), Terron Armstead (Pro Bowl tackle), and Malcom Jenkins (Iron man defensives savant)... and JW wasn't the QB for ~10 games.... And you always (quote edit) leave out the part of my post that ties together my entire thought... You know I can't stand that.

Playoff team with Lutz playing and everything else happening as it did. The "I don't see us competing" narrative is a strange one given the all-time cosmic scale bad luck that kept the team out of the playoffs last season.

I do that so it's clear what part I'm responding to.

Anyway, sure we may be a bit worse in some areas, but regardless of how you feel about Winston, he should be an improvement over all of the QB play we had for the last 10 games and if we add a good WR and more help in the draft, we might actually be better. But, even as we are now, a bit worse than last year, we are still a borderline playoff team with just a healthy offensive line and Winston.

That doesn't mean you ignore the long term if they really think that a franchise QB has fallen to them. But, just like I don't think they are convinced that Winston is the long term answer, I don't think they are convinced any of these QBs are the long term answer either. To me that means you wait until at least round 2 until you take a guy that you aren't convinced will be the long term solution at QB. But, I guess we'll find out how they feel about these QBs and Winston tomorrow night.

Why would the Saints draft a rookie QB who isn't ready when they told us they're in win-now mode and have kept the same coaching staff, re-signed Winston and made no big moves in FA?
Exactly. Not sure why people keep creating these threads and miss this elephant in the room! Not rocket science. Common sense.

Why draft him at 16 and not 19... Seems like these mocks are designed to help get their favorite prospect to fall to their favorite team.
Yep. Seem to be a lot of mocks that have the Saints taking Pickett so they can mock Willis to the Steelers and then comment "Steelers get their man without having to move up."

It takes away from my point... but I digress.

We shall see... I want to win this year, but I'd much rather be a contender every year for the next 10-15... and I know the odds of that greatly increase when you have a young stud franchise QB... and we both know I don't think JW is that guy.

All I know is I'm EXCITED. It all starts tomorrow!

My prediction.

1) Saints will go BPA throughout.
2) Saints will get at least one, maybe two stud receivers. Not necessarily in the 1st round. There's so many good ones.
3) Saints will get a stud RB. There's so many good ones.

All the rest of it, I dunno. We're only missing a few pieces. And we're due for a little luck with injuries or officiating.

I'm just excited. I have my beer stocked up, and have booked my time off work for the hangovers.

What on Earth are you talking about?

They didn't make big moves? They tried to send three first round picks and 40+ million a year to Bill Cosby Jr.

After Deshaun fleeced the Browns, the Saints have been anything but "win now mode." They let two Pro Bowl players they loved walk in free agency for deals below top of market, and they have refused to pay top dollar for Jarvis or Tyrann or any other free agent. The team has visibly gotten worse this off-season and is on the record for trying to spend *less* money and getting their cap back down.

I think we're set for the next couple years well enough with Winston/Dalton/Hill

This talking point is equally silly. The Saints clearly don't feel that way -- they gave Winston a short contract that could easily be terminated after *one* season. They gave Dalton a backup deal and made Hill a TE.

The Saints may not pick a QB, but the only credible argument I have seen against it -- this year's QB class sucks -- has nothing to do with the Saints.

By every metric of the Saints' own behavior -- Deshaun, Jameis' contract, trading for another 1st this year and sacrificing future high picks, visible diligence in scrutinizing QB options, attempting to trade for Mac last year -- the Saints are acting like a team that will take a QB they like if that person exists.

If Pickett or Willis are there at 16 and the Saints don't pick them, it's because they don't view them as decent likelihood franchise QBs. If they do, they are not only picking them, they very likely may trade up a few spots to ensure if they fall out of Top 10.

Not saying what *I want*, but what I think reality is.

Vegas knows what’s up. I’ve seen Saints as either #1 or #2 for most likely to take Pickett or Ridder. I’ve said I could live with Ridder at 19. I’m not a huge fan of Pickett, but he is the most accurate QB in this draft.

Drafting QB isn’t giving up on winning now. I don’t think there is a QB in this draft that could supplant Winston this year. You draft QB if you don’t think Winston is the long term answer, for what reason the Saints might have that belief.

Off topic (somewhat) - But I don't buy that CAR or ATL will take a QB... SEA might be the only top 10 pick team that may do that... Which QB? Beats me!

The more I look at the draft board... My mind starts to change, and I think there is going to be an insane run on DEs, OTs, and WRs in the first 15 picks that's going to send a lot of heads here spinning.

Usually every draft you can count on the handful of CBs, LBs, QBs, and S to take up some space at the top of the draft... but when you look at the teams picking, and the players that are rated the highest/team needs... It looks like a run on anything but.

There are guys I thought a month ago had no shot at getting out of the top 13... dropping into our laps... but at positions I didn't think would be available.

I think there is a real chance that the Saints may have an opportunity to take the first QB off the board at 16... and possibly a guy like D. Stingly or K Hamilton or S. Gardner...

It might get crazy!
