Pickett at 16? (2 Viewers)

I think we're underestimating the impact of losing Williams, Jenkins and probably Kwon. That's 3 high end starters. We have good replacements but there's a good chance the D is going to regress, especially if there have injury issues again. I don't think we'll collapse on that side of the ball but if you don't think losing those three is going to be felt you're kidding yourself.

I wouldn't be surprised if we go D line or safety early. There are a lot of good WRs later in the draft and Landry is still available. Look at our "needs"
O Line - everybody is talking OT but I think guard is much more of a need. A big time OT would be nice but those guys go quick.
WR -The most obvious "need"
Safety -There a couple 1st 2nd rd grade safeties I could see us drafting
DT -If one of the big boys fall to us it would be hard pass up.
RB - Even if Kamara doesn't miss a bunch of games we still need a quality back to help shoulder the load. If AK does get a long suspension we're in trouble.
QB -It's a crap shoot
TE -Not one proven starter at the position on the roster right now.

My prediction is we go BPA in the first three rds and then maybe reach a little late looking diamond in the rough types at positions of need.

I do that so it's clear what part I'm responding to.

Anyway, sure we may be a bit worse in some areas, but regardless of how you feel about Winston, he should be an improvement over all of the QB play we had for the last 10 games and if we add a good WR and more help in the draft, we might actually be better. But, even as we are now, a bit worse than last year, we are still a borderline playoff team with just a healthy offensive line and Winston.

That doesn't mean you ignore the long term if they really think that a franchise QB has fallen to them. But, just like I don't think they are convinced that Winston is the long term answer, I don't think they are convinced any of these QBs are the long term answer either. To me that means you wait until at least round 2 until you take a guy that you aren't convinced will be the long term solution at QB. But, I guess we'll find out how they feel about these QBs and Winston tomorrow night.
I dont see any of these QBs being any better in thier career than what Winston is now. When it comes to Jameis i do not think he has yet to hit his ceiling.

Yeah Pickett had an impressive year last year but he was playing in a joke of a conference called THE ACC. Willis seems to be athletic but very green. Bust potential on him is very high. I dont think there is good floor or middle area for him. Corral, feel the same way about him as Willis. He has great athletic ability but is he truly a quarterback or an athlete playing qb rather than a qb with athletic abilities.

I dont want to see a QB unless we have a top 10 pick and team is in full rebuild. We are not and ibonly want to see lineman and wr in our first 2 picks don't care what order

Exactly, wether you are a fan of Winston or not only chance the Saints have to suceed is if they go all in with Winston. Putting only the foot in the water is not going to get it done.

I'd be bummed. I think we're set for the next couple years well enough with Winston/Dalton/Hill and Book on the PS.

I haven't researched QB's much this draft, but from what I've read, the only one potentially worth a 1st rounder is Willis. And he's a wildcard.

I'd save that pick for a guaranteed stud.
No such thing as a guaranteed stud in any draft

I'd OK with it, so long as they don't move up to get him (we're almost there, @TenTwo ;) ). But I don't see him dropping that far with all those QB needy teams above us.

What on Earth are you talking about?

They didn't make big moves? They tried to send three first round picks and 40+ million a year to Bill Cosby Jr.

After Deshaun fleeced the Browns, the Saints have been anything but "win now mode." They let two Pro Bowl players they loved walk in free agency for deals below top of market, and they have refused to pay top dollar for Jarvis or Tyrann or any other free agent. The team has visibly gotten worse this off-season and is on the record for trying to spend *less* money and getting their cap back down.

This talking point is equally silly. The Saints clearly don't feel that way -- they gave Winston a short contract that could easily be terminated after *one* season. They gave Dalton a backup deal and made Hill a TE.

The Saints may not pick a QB, but the only credible argument I have seen against it -- this year's QB class sucks -- has nothing to do with the Saints.

By every metric of the Saints' own behavior -- Deshaun, Jameis' contract, trading for another 1st this year and sacrificing future high picks, visible diligence in scrutinizing QB options, attempting to trade for Mac last year -- the Saints are acting like a team that will take a QB they like if that person exists.

If Pickett or Willis are there at 16 and the Saints don't pick them, it's because they don't view them as decent likelihood franchise QBs. If they do, they are not only picking them, they very likely may trade up a few spots to ensure if they fall out of Top 10.

Not saying what *I want*, but what I think reality is.
Spot on, couldn’t agree more. Literally everything the Saints have done indicates they don’t see Winston as the long term QB. To then trade next years 1st (making it difficult to draft/trade for a QB if Winston doesn’t work out) without taking a QB this year doesn’t make sense or align with the way they’ve operated. Everything suggests we’re going QB at some point in the first 2 rounds of this draft.

Let’s hope the team improves tomorrow night. I think qb is a need but hope the team doesn’t trade up for one.

Why would the Saints draft a rookie QB who isn't ready when they told us they're in win-now mode and have kept the same coaching staff, re-signed Winston and made no big moves in FA?
Because they have ZERO faith in Winston as the next long term answer. If so, they would not have gone so hard for Watson and would then have signed Winston to a long term deal.

strongly disagree. while i dont think we "should" draft a qb this year based off what i've read about the qbs coming out, winston will hopefully be good enough for a year, and hopefully more. still, coming off an ACL, and thru 7 games he didnt show enough to me to say we're good with him for long term.

dalton at backup is decent. not great, not terrible. hopefully he wont see the field. but they need a veteran backup going into TC this year.

hill is supposedly practicing at TE and not QB this season.

book should be the #3 for this season.

theyll probably sign an UDFA or a FA qb before TC, need at least 4 to take all the reps.
Hill being strictly in the TE position now, the Saints will need a solid #3. I think there is a very high probability they draft Pickett and a LT, with their first 2 picks, or Willis and a LT.

(EDIT; Book is a camp QB. NOT a solid #3).

They are all in with Winston for THIS year only at this point. They need a solid 3rd. Book is not it. He is a camp QB.
