Pickett at 16? (2 Viewers)

It is possible that they take a QB with one of their picks from the 1st through the 7th this year. It might even be likely. But, given that Loomis said the trade for the 2nd first was initiated by Philly, it tells me the Saints had no plans to move up for a QB. And if they had no plans to trade up, that tells me that they are not convinced any of these QBs are franchise QBs. And if you trade next year's one and don't plan to guarantee and QB pick this year by trading up, it tells me while they are not convinced Winston is the guy, they are at least okay with the idea of him starting for the next 2 years. Otherwise, they would have a plan to move up to get the QB they want this year or they would have kept next year's first round pick. They could still take a QB at 16 or 19 if the right guy falls, but it's not part of some plan to replace Winston because they see it as essential.

P.S. I quoted your entire post.
Exactly and also the timing of the trade with Philly is another clue to Loomis's thinking

During this exact time of the Philly trade Loomis wanted to try to resign Armstead and sign GB receiver Marquez Valdes Scantling. Both signed contracts for much more to other teams

Instead of free agency, Loomis has decided (forced) to fill the holes of our roster thru the draft. OT and receiver will be drafted with the 1st 3 picks in our draft

Widge likes the way Louie thinks about this.

Carson Strong has trouble walking much less avoiding an NFL DE.
Very true, but id rather have him than Pickett. Heck, id rather have Bailey Zappe. Im just not a fan at all of Pickett. I think he’s already peaked & his ceiling is already maxed out coming into the league. I mean maybe in RD 2, but 16 is a disgusting thought to me.

I'm not a fan of Pickett either. I'm just saying if I'm taking a QB in the 2nd, I'd rather Howell, Ridder, or even Corral over Strong who I think is going to have issues avoiding the rush due that long term knee issue. The kid almost got killed last year playing against mid-level talent. I don't want to see him get killed in the NFL. It's too bad because I think he has talent and is a real competitor, but I'm not sure he will ever be able to move well enough to play in the NFL.

Except Loomis said yesterday that Philly sought them out for the trade for the second 1st round pick. The Saints were not actively seeking another 1st round pick as part of a plan to move up in the draft. The option just presented itself and Loomis said they liked the idea of moving up the talent from next year's first to this year. So, that does not indicate that they have a plan to trade up for a QB. In fact the fact that they were willing to trade away next year's first in order to get two players this year, indicates that they are at least okay with the idea of Winston starting for two years if someone they think is going to be a great QB doesn't fall to them. If you feel that you must replace your QB you don't do this deal to lose next year's first while not trading up to get a QB you are targeting.

Had they went out and sought that second 1st round pick, I would think it may be part of a plan to trade up for a QB. But, that's not what happened. Still, it's possible that a good deal will present itself and they would do it. But, it's not part of a larger plan to get a QB and doesn't really tell us much about how they feel about Winston.
I never said that they have a plan to trade up for a QB. I’m simply saying that Loomis has made it difficult for us to select a top QB prospect in next years draft. Combine that with the lack of faith in Winston as a long term option and I think we’re going to pick a QB in the first 2 rounds.

Hopefully we don't pick any quarterbacks, not even in the 6th.

I just saw Pickett's GF on TV, and wondered if she had any imformitive comments about Pickett's hand size.

I agree. I like Sam Howell too. If we take a QB, i hope its him. Even if its in the 1st. Just not a believer in Pickett. As for Strong, that knee is glass & he has horrible mobility to boot. But i like everything else about him. That arm is money & he knows & shows it.
