Fiero

2nd Gen MR2 on the other hand... especially the Turbo...

If I'm a wizard in England during the Middle Ages, then the choice is clearly the Pontiac Fiero. Otherwise, I guess the Toyota?

Prototypical 80's cars....

Frat brother had that MR2... He thought it was the greatest car ever...:hihi:

I'll throw the Fiat X19 in for ***** and giggles..

It's a battle to the death. Choose wisely.

From the October 1987 Road & Track comparison (Fiero Formula versus MR2 Supercharged):

AND THE WINNER IS…

Talk about David and Goliath. In this battle the little Samurai hacks away at the giant without pity, swinging a sharp, swift sword. The MR2 is so much faster that the Fiero just can't keep up, falling even farther behind on long grades. Despite the Formula's slightly better grip at the limit, the MR2 has such superior steering and road feel that the average driver can go much quicker, with confidence. Add its superiority in braking and fuel mileage, and the MR2 dominates in performance. In our ratings, the Fiero didn't win a single driving category.

The drivers were divided on the esthetics of the two coupes; half of them finding the Fiero's appeal greater, half preferring the MR2's practical look. The Fiero got the styling nod on points. But in assembly quality and finish, the MR2 was again a clear winner.

All four drivers preferred the MR2 overall, even with price as a factor. Considering the $4500 higher tag for the MR2, that's really saying something. What it says is; When you buy a driver's car with performance in mind, paying quite a bit less for a lot less is no bargain. But nobody was talking bargain; the MR2 at an astronomical $17,500 and the Fiero at $13,000 are high-performance cars that just happen to have two seats. Runabouts they're not.

I can't really cite personal experience for these specific models but I drove a 1985 Supra (with the inimitable 2-tone gray/gray paint job) for 7 years--a great car for someone in their 20s. (Sold it to a friend's sister for cash in 1993, and a few months later some idiot plowed into it from behind while she had it legally parked on the street and totalled it. Very sad.)

So it would be hard for me to pick against Toyota of that era.

I'll take the Fiero SY. 0-60 5 sec's and 51 MPG.

Alright you've just caused me to have PTSD flashbacks to my days as a Fiat X1/9 owner. Had it 6 months and it spent 4 months in the shop. Its crowning achievement was breaking its timing belt on the way home from what was otherwise shaping up to be a great date. After we had to walk 2 miles at 1AM, things tailed off a bit.

Burn in hell you *****. The car, not the date :hihi:

Herpes or Halitosis?

I'd go X19 > MR2 > Fiero

I'm surprised the Fiat/Bertone X19 has aged as well as it has, and would say I like the way it looks now more than I did then. I'm taking it easily over the other two, even though it could be argued it's inferior in many ways.

My brother had a Fiero. It was really difficult to drive. The clutch was so stiff that it was hart to drive without stalling. The steering was so stiff it felt like a truck if the power steering was broken.

Bot it had speakers in the headrest, so it was cool.
