Pros and Cons after the 49ers game. (1 Viewer)

People went way overboard with Rattler but that's not his fault.
I been saying this since day 1, temper expectations with this guy. I like his arms strength and the way he has been playing but he is a rookie and plays like one.

I'm still concerned about the OL as a group. I think it's safe to say we would have had a lot more difficulty with Bosa and Hargrave out there.

LG and RT are the biggest concerns, LT appears to be in a better place than it was last year.

I also have my concerns about Carr's ability to succeed in this offense even if the OL is serviceable. I posted about his issues with timing in the offseason, and I think the sideline pass to Wilson is another example. While the pass ended up behind Wilson, I think it was a problem of timing more than accuracy. Carr finishes his drop and waits until Wilson's break to throw the ball. If he throws the same pass at the completion of his drop, we likely move the chains.
I just rewatched the game. Remeber when the commentator said, “Carr made a business decision on that play”. It was a shotgun where Carr was to read the LDE. Carr out of shotgun hands to Thill where hill was gobbled up. Carr bootlegged. Had Carr kept it it was a 10 yard gain ez. That’s why they called it a biz decision. Let’s hope Carr keeps it in the regular season. I’m not being critical of Car, I’m just being picky. By the way, Carr was on target, there were a bunch of drops that should’ve been caught.

Last thing, I noticed Derek Carr was off target on several throws last night. His placement was bad on several of his passes. Could be a timing issue. who knows, But hope he gets better placement of his passes before regular season starts.

He wasn't off target...

He just didn't always hit his recievers in stride...

Partially disagree here. Sure the more elite pass catchers you have the better but who did the Chiefs really have last year outside of Kelce?

Take it a step further, of the teams that made they playoffs last year, I’d argue that there were easily more that had 2 or less really good to elite playmakers on offense than those that had 3 or more.

How many of those units would you take over the Saints pass catching options objectively speaking?
Depends if your QB is Mahomes or Carr

Haener looked a lot better than Rattler today. Jake had lots of zip on the ball, Rattler looked rattled. But I’ll hold out to see how Spencer plays in the last preseason game - it’s only his first year.
Ugh... No!

Haener's arm looked weak today...

He badly under threw AT Perry on the last drive which should have been the winning score!

Don't forget a couple that should have been picked, but that is preseason. Live and learn

Trust he won’t receive too much criticism here
This is the only safe place. What I’m thinking is going to happen, come time for Carolina. There are thousands of toxic fans waiting to toxically boo the team starting with the first incomplete passes. In my YouTube feeds, I’ve been seeing some of these local saints YouTubers, posting Carr hate vids. Naming them “why Saints fans hate Carr”. You could say, "well just win". But that’s not the case, they are going to boo immediately win or lose. This behavior is an unforeseen side effect of Sean Payton’s success. Sorry for the rant, but this behavior pisses me off, because it’s ultimately going to hurt the team. (For the record: Booing is OK if warranted, but that’s not the case I’m speaking of).

The Wide Receiver position is a concern is you ask me. So is Running Back. Besides Olave and Shaheed, the Saints have no one who scares the defense. And if they can't run the ball they're toast. The Defense can only do so much.
Olave is never going to be a Great receiver. He gets no YAK. All the great ones do. He hasn't changed since day one. Great separation, catch, drop down...

I was very surprised that Young played so many snaps. He will be a difference maker if he stays healthy.

I think Payton could develop into a good CB.

It's hard to judge the young QBs with the OLs and WRs they worked with. Rasheed, Holker, and JJ in the game would have helped them a lot.

Our WRs can get us through the season if all are healthy stop dropping balls.

I'm impressed with our running game, but it has to get better to make play action work going forward.
our running game is horrible, pick up SF cuts, they know the offense

Good to see we got out unscathed. To add to my deep hatred for the 49ers...it always seems like we suffer a huge key injury against them after some questionable hit. Pierre getting taken out of a crucial playoff game with an illegal head shot. Reggie getting his leg broken on a questionable diving tackle after he was on the ground. Drew's ribs where the guy clearly used his whole weight to fall on him. I'm sure there are others that I have blocked out by now.

I think an old veteran like Can knows what the real value of his preseason is, and that’s to get a little play and not get hurt.

I think the pros revolve around how it looks like they’re going to use TH and the defense looks stout

Oh and also that there are not 28 new Rattler threads with at least 3 of them nominating him for the hall of fame. (And I do like him. I think carries himself differently. Whether that means he’s a stud or not. I dont k ow. )

It would sure be nice to see a little more offense. But again, it is preseason and who knows what we’ll see when it matters
Still think Carr is too old to suddenly become a quick decision maker. Once he gets hit from this crappy oline, he 's done

I thought the offensive line played better as a unit, well as expected with the additions made to surround incumbents (Ruiz, McCoy and Penning). I thought Patrick held up nicely and Limeaux (sp?) will be a good backup G/C., and the UDFA rookie Heigel (sp?) may be in the mix and we must not forget about Salvedori (sp?) I think the exterior can be a solid unit its the tackles spot outside of LT that draw concern especially who is back up tackles will be.

I think your Carr analyst is a little off or bias as judging a pass that was not perfectly timed can be made about any QB/WR connection on any team, Carr has not had the kind of career where your hoping he gets it this time around., this is a guy who threw for 3800 yards 25 TD's and 8 interceptions on an offensive that lacked creativity and he was able to play within it while finding rhythm with his new teammates.
Carr is good in practice with a red jersey, watch out when it comes off....

We will see this year if he can get YAC. This offense is designed to get YAC yards and he put on 12 pounds of muscle to be able to get YAC and to be able to block better. Frankly, the old offense wasn't really designed to get YAC for the WRs.
