Pros and Cons after the 49ers game. (2 Viewers)

well at least Lucas Patrick can pass block. (i assume he's one in 62% range) TF should be an improvement over LY in both R/P blocking. So Pennings poor pass blocking is the elephant in the room? you agree?
I'm still concerned about the OL as a group. I think it's safe to say we would have had a lot more difficulty with Bosa and Hargrave out there.

LG and RT are the biggest concerns, LT appears to be in a better place than it was last year.

I also have my concerns about Carr's ability to succeed in this offense even if the OL is serviceable. I posted about his issues with timing in the offseason, and I think the sideline pass to Wilson is another example. While the pass ended up behind Wilson, I think it was a problem of timing more than accuracy. Carr finishes his drop and waits until Wilson's break to throw the ball. If he throws the same pass at the completion of his drop, we likely move the chains.

I thought the offensive line played better as a unit, well as expected with the additions made to surround incumbents (Ruiz, McCoy and Penning). I thought Patrick held up nicely and Limeaux (sp?) will be a good backup G/C., and the UDFA rookie Heigel (sp?) may be in the mix and we must not forget about Salvedori (sp?) I think the exterior can be a solid unit its the tackles spot outside of LT that draw concern especially who is back up tackles will be.

I think your Carr analyst is a little off or bias as judging a pass that was not perfectly timed can be made about any QB/WR connection on any team, Carr has not had the kind of career where your hoping he gets it this time around., this is a guy who threw for 3800 yards 25 TD's and 8 interceptions on an offensive that lacked creativity and he was able to play within it while finding rhythm with his new teammates.

I would have liked to see Haener and Rattler with the first string in there.
After all, if your first string QB goes down the backup is in with first string.
One more thing.......Carr said in the interview that we are still not showing what we have. Its preseason.
We not showing what we have yet it’s only week 5 lol

one thing that Carr said that was disturbing to me in his interview. He said that he's glad that its a preseason game because if he makes a mistake all will be forgiven. But he also said that because its preseason that he trusted the timing of his Wrs and therefore didn't hesitate to throw the ball. So does this mean Carr is more likely to hold onto the ball in the regular season? Because this offense to work, requires quick timing passes. And not late weak lobs.
Trust he won’t receive too much criticism here

Last one by an RB was Kamara in the 2021 season, in week 17 against the Panthers. We had four 30+ yard runs in 2022, but three were Taysom Hill and the other was Rashid Shaheed.

Longest RB run last year was 19 yards by Tony Jones in week two against the Panthers. Longest run was 29 yards by Lynn Bowden against the Falcons in week 12.
You're a machine!

How did you find away to put a negative spin on an omission of a QB explaining how he is finding timing with his receivers?

He is going to trust the design of the offense and his receivers to be where they are supposed to be, simple as that.

Over the past few seasons, I've seen one nagging trend: first and second down? Shut down. Third down? Give up a long play. Almost. Every. Damned. Time.

I mean, that may be what he meant, but that's not what he said in the quote.

yes he threw flat footed quite a bit. That's excatly what he said he didnt do. He said he was just going to let it fly and trust his receivers, (because its pre-season and safe) but like you said, he stood there and waited, then threw. This lack of timing could weaken any YAC we were trying to improve upon. I dont think we got any YAC vs SF.

1) Pros -

Penning was better. Not great but better.

Taysom is still Taysom

Defense will be good again.

2) Cons -

Right now we have one of the bottom 5 sets of offensive skill players

Our weird obsession with bad punting continues

he says that, but in the game throws flat footed and waits for his WR to get open. It looked clunky and we didnt get any YAC at all vs SF. Its not the end of the world but its something that needs to be worked on. By the way, i dont spin anything, im only pointing out things that I find are important. Overall i feel pretty good about the 1st string offense. (I wasn't expecting them to move the ball hardly at all much less a 95 yard drive) Im concerned if he waits at all in the pocket, he could get strip sacked. He has to throw on time regardless of what he sees at the moment.

My biggest “pro” was the D! IMO as long as it can just stay relatively healthy, it could well be a top 5 group again!

D line: Chase is HIM! BB done picked up where he left off last year n then some. The NASCAR package CG, BB, Cam at DT n Young are gonna be fun to watch.

LB: what a difference a year makes
for D’Marco n esp AO who both played well! Add in Willie Gay n now the LB room looks pretty solid!

CB : Rico Payton! PFF gave him a 91 grade in the 1st game, n he came back with an equally impressive performance against the Niners! Well done young man! 👍🏾

What I seen from last nights game was that Isaiah Foskey was another terrible draft pick and he is wasting a Saints roster spot right now. This guy has been terrible since day one & continues to be terrible. D.A made comments at beginning of Training camp he plans to have best players on final 53 & no spot going be giving to anyone, well it sure as heck not Foskey. I did see some improvement out of Trevor Penning however. D.A needs to play guys like Penning again for least a half against Titans also as he needs to reps before season starts.

I thought CB Rico Payton continues to impress & looks to have about kicked the door down for a spot on final 53. Also it appears saints do not have Safety on this current roster worth starting next to Tyrann. Jordan Howden, Abram, Chris Harris, J.T Gray, Etc all stink. This going be a problem if they do not find somebody else beside these guys to start next Tyrann.

I thought Oji and Demarco Jackson looked pretty good along with Willie Gay. Hudson on other hand is hard to judge as he will make a good play and then screw up on next play or two. He up and down & not consistent. Also with Jaylan Ford being out again with yet another hamstring, I think done sealed his fate as I see no way he makes final 53, so another missed draft pick, course you never know with D.A as he never does what he always says.

Another point I noticed is WR's. besides Chris Olave, Saheed who did not play last night no one has jumped out with rest of WR's on roster. Bud Means could be one of those as he had decent first game last night. In my opinion Cedric Wilson who by the way allowed a couple punts go he should of fielded has done nothing so far. Same for St Brown, & Stanley Morgan just flat out stinks. The more i thought about WR's after game, I am hoping that UDFA Mason Tipton is able to play against Titans. Saints have to find a way to keep this guy on Final 53 for his speed and hands. He would just bring all that speed along with Shaheed and Olave. Players like Cedric Wilson, St Brown will not bring Saints Offense anything in way of Production. They been around league already & have not done diddly squat.

Bresee & Chase Young were on another planet last night as they were that good.

Last thing, I noticed Derek Carr was off target on several throws last night. His placement was bad on several of his passes. Could be a timing issue. who knows, But hope he gets better placement of his passes before regular season starts.

That third drive was great, but a major factor is that practically none of the 49ers projected defensive starters played. None of the starting DL or DB's played. One of their projected starting LB's got extended work, but he's a starter at SLB and will likely not see the field too much.

We looked way better than we did last week against backups, so it's a step in the right direction.
Also we had no AK,Shaheed,Fuaga,Johnson,
