QB Depth Around The League - (Dolphins Dilemma?) (1 Viewer)

But where do you find said backup? We talk consistently how there are about 20 good QBs in a league with 32 places. Then you need 32 quality backups where what are there 7? And when your starter is making what a quarter of the salary cap? Where does the cap space for a quality (highly paid) backup come in? The Saints don’t have one either. We have a rookie that ran well and threw a couple of nice passes and a couple year vet who on the field didn’t produce like they hoped. So can’t fault the dolphins there
He was decent for us for one season, considering the circumstances in 2022 and while he's far from his prime, what about Andy Dalton? Miami has a very good, potent supporting cast along with a good defense, Dalton doesn't have to look like he did a decade ago to help Miami win some games in Tua's absence?

Miami doesn't need a good back-up, just a decent one and guys like Tannehill or Dalton are former starting QB's who fit the "one-year" insurance plan roles to fall back on in case Tua has to sit out on IR most of the season to make sure his brains don't get more scrambled then they already are.

If Tua really is done or MIA after this season, a better question then rises for Miami: who's the long-term replacement for him? Is he another high-priced starting NFL QB acquired via a trade or do they have a top-notch All-American college prospect in mind?

A good number of teams signed viable backups this offseason. A few others made trades for what they believe are viable backups (which are debatable, but in their eyes they are). None of those teams that signed backup QBs, have a starting QB with concussion issues, unlike the Dolphins.
As for us, like I just stated, we don’t have a QB with concussion issues.
The entire world saw Tua seize up from that 1st concussion. The Dolphins know exactly how severe his issue is, they just won’t ever admit it publicly. If they failed to get a viable backup, then they have only themselves to blame bc they had more than enough chances/ways to get one.
Look at all of the QBs that changed teams. Do you notice a team that didn’t nab one of these guys???? Yup, the Dolphins.

It's almost like you didn't see Tannehill firsthand last season when we played Tennessee...he's done.
What about former starters who had some success who might still be viable like Jimmy Garopollo or Andy Dalton?

Or God forbid, they decide to take a more peculiar route and make a trade to Jax for Mac Jones and sit back and watch he might be able to do with a more talented, potent offense and overall supporting cast and if he succeeds beyond their expectations, perhaps they'll consider him as a possible future starter if Tua's career is truly over due to fears that long-term side effects related to multiple concussions might dramatically effect his physiological, mental and psychological health and well-being and while an extremely difficult decision in the short-run for his pride, it would be in his absolute best interests to retire from the NFL.

Outside of football, I'm worried about Tua's long term health. I've had people tell me that I only have that opinion because I'm not a Dolphins fan and I've gotta say that's a BS excuse. If Brees or Carr were in the same situation, I'd want them to hang it up, too.

As far as the Phins QB situation goes, they'd be smart to bring back Mike White. He already knows the system and the dude has no problems with being a leader. You need someone with that strong personality and leadership skills, not to mention experience. He made the Jets look competent on offense and that's no small feat.

Jimmy G is a solid suggestion...Dalton is trash adjacent to Tannehill. The lowest I'd go in Miami is Russell Wilson, and that's pretty damn low.

They have a solid roster...almost SB competing roster but they need to assess if they no sheet have a shot at beating KC with any of those options <- which they don't so long story short, I wouldn't throw away long term assets for a single season problem that I can resolve long term at end of season for cheaper.

At this point I’d go with Desmond Ridder. He was a starter in the league last year and the Clowns car ruin anyone, he’s on rookie contract and he will have an offense. I actually likes him coming out of college.
Ridder would be a low risk investment in a young player with some starting experience.

He's certainly a more viable threat running than Tua. He was playing in the Clowns offense with the imagination Arthur Smith of instead of MM. Totally different philosophies.

I re-watched the BUF/MIA game from the Tua concussion to the end. Of course, the game was well out of hand, but Skylar Thompson didn't look like he's the answer.
