Article Raiders shopping TE Michael Mayer. (16 Viewers)

There are some good datapoints.

He was a stud pass-catching tight end at Notre Dame.

He's 6'4"

I'm not finding major injuries for him in college. He played in all but one of 36 games in college, and started all but 4 his first season. He missed one game to a grade 2 groin strain.

In the pros, he had a toe injury late in 2023 which caused him to miss the last three games of the year.

He missed a month in 2024 due to personal reasons. Maybe that's mental/emotional or maybe it was because of a major family illness. We don't know. Brock Bowers dominated the TE room.

I'm so leery of doing any deals with the Raiders because of the past 3 years and now that Brady's there, but if he's mentally right and we really could get this guy for a 6 or a 7th round pick, then why not.

It's like NIL. Do you want to allocate your assets to rookies, or to young guys already with experience. Take the rookie, and the clock is at 0 on their first contract, Take a slightly older guy, and 2nd contract decision is closer.

@Infoman what say ya?

I just think we need 3 tight ends.
You might be right. I do think that we need to acquire 2 TEs this year. Draft 2 this year, or trade a 5th next year for Mayer. I wouldn't give up on last year's rookie as our 3rd TE, Holker. Having 2 stud TEs would change our offense. Think Ravens.

I wouldn’t mind giving up a day 3 pick for Mayer. I liked him a lot as a late 1st or early 2nd rounder the year he was drafted. I think he can stick as a solid #2 TE, but I haven’t seen enough from him to say he’s any sort of upgrade over Foster. It’s possible he has the potential to be better…. So that’s worth a day 3 pick IMO…. But not much else.

Some team is going to act quickly if this article is factual. Mayer was fantastic in college.
IMHO, Lots of players are good in college but that may or may translate into the pros. Prime examples is Jonathan Sullivan. The saints traded 2 picks to move up to pick one of the biggest busts in Saints history. This kid may be a “complete TE” but may be a basket case and that is very difficult to fix.

That seems about right for Meyer. But, I will point out that right now we have no healthy TE's on the roster other than Holker and maybe a PS guy. Both Hill and Moreau got hurt late in the year. Not sure either will be back for camp. So we do need to add at least two TEs. Especially if they let Johnson walk in free agency.

JJ can you walk. We need new influx of talent.
