RB Kareem Hunt visiting the Saints tonight; Saints also working out LB Anthony Barr (2 Viewers)

šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

28 is "almost" 30 and almost no running backs are not playing past 30 anymore.
Hunt has been splitting carries for a several years. He backed up Chubb in Cleveland and made good on most of the touches he got. You never know with a lot of RBs but I'd be surprised if Hunt doesn't have a couple of solid years left in him.

The visit starts tonight. Weā€™ll probably get news on the outcome in the morning.

Interesting anytime a veteran of his ilk makes a visit this time of year, especially with it being one involving him coming in for a night meeting.

Wonder if we plan to wine and dine him this evening, or if heā€™s coming here to put pen to paper and be ready for practice on a momentā€™s notice.

& then you throw in Carr and the receiving corp ??.. as stated earlier, it's not even fair.. If the Saints aren't the #1 offense IF they sign Hunt then i'd say bye-bye to Pete and DC.. I mean to have AK, Hunt, Williams and Miller ??.. ohhhhhh the options, especially when AK gets back.. that's some serious talent right there kids..

NW.
Top offense in the division maybe. Adding Hunt doesnt make them better than the Chiefs, Eagles, Bengals, Bills, Phins.

I think we can certainly edge out the Phins. Tua was 8-4 as a starter (he beat one playoff team) and they were only one spot above the Raiders in scoring offense coming in at 11th. Not to mention they lack a running game coming in at 25th.

It sounds like a let us take you out to eat before we sign you because we have a clear need type of situation to me. Just like when Jimmy signed, broken first by a poster on here.

I think weā€™ve signed every FA weā€™ve brought in for visits lately. Graham, Turner, Moreau, and Edwards. Iā€™m kind of expecting to see Hunt signed in the morning with a picture of him signing his contract on the teamā€™s social media.

A few people are saying that he's washed up and just a name at this point. Okay then, let's say he is washed up and he's just a name at this point. Is a washed up Kareem Hunt better than Ellis Merriweather or Eno Benjamin with a ruptured Achilles? That's who he'd be replacing. If the Saints were talking about throwing huge money at a 28 year old Kareem Hunt and making him the feature back then I'd be like slow down Pony Boy. But they aren't.

They aren't bringing him in to be the focal point of the offense. We're talking about a modest deal for a RB who figures to be the RB3 while AK is suspended and then the RB4 when AK returns. Hunt probably isn't going to see a lot of touches but if he was forced into action I don't think he'd embarrass himself.

It's just funny to see Saints fans turn their nose up at Kareem Hunt after watching the ball be forced into AK's hands the past two years because the only other options were a 57 year old Mark Ingram, Tony Jones Jr, David Johnson (Yes that David Johnson and yes he was still in the league last year), Dwayne Washington, etc. Taysom Hill was the only other viable option in the run game.

Iā€™d rather have too many backs than not enough. Our successful teams carried 4 RBs.

2009
PT, Bell, Bush Hamilton

2011
Ingram, Sproles, PT, Ivory

We ran for over 2100 yards both of those seasons and nobody had 800 in either of them.
Yep, agree but at least 2 should play on ST. RB's make great ST players., but none of ours (or Hunt) are likely to play ST.

Thatā€™s the trade off. Dwayne Washington played special teams but wouldnā€™t get the ball unless he was forced into action. But we didnā€™t usually go into a season knowing Kamara was going to miss three games.

Just listening to Ross Jackson, he said the team was looking for help at linebacker BEFORE the injury to Dowell. Some smart fellas in the know sure do side with the ā€œweā€™re thin at linebackerā€ side. Lol

That kills the whole argument of only searching after injuries.

Either way, still hoping Barr is healthy and comes on back.

I've steadfastly been one of "those guys". I do have to ask if Ross Jackson is as infallible as, say, Diana Russini, though? šŸ˜‰

More fairly, I think Underhill had said that the team wouldn't mind more at the position, but I think the basic NFL teamonomics still apply: Develop your own at backup for cheap, bring in vets available on the street only if and when necessary. I've seen nothing to suggest there's a starting role at LB up for grabs, no matter how much fans here bag on Baun.

I'll take Fournette, Ronald Jones or Zeke for 3 Games, Let Hunt Chase his dollars.

Keep in mind that the third 'starting' LB is a bit misleading as most teams play in the nickel with 2 LBs on the field far more often than a base 4-3.

I am pretty sure I saw a stat where the Saints were in the nickel for nearly 60% of their snaps last season. If you don't count short yardage and goal line situations, that percentage is going to be significantly higher. One could definitely say that the nickel is our base defense these days
