I can't think of many spin-offs from a supporting character that was able to expand the character on their own storyline/merits. There might be a few odd hit's out there but the majority are misses. Robin is just not as intriguing without Batman. It has been tried but never as well receiving as the main character's storyline.

Fully agree. I think Breaking Bad had some higher highs, but it also had lower lows. BCS was more consistently good. To me.
