Reign of Terror is over! Pelicans leaves BallySports. (1 Viewer)

Ok so let me preface what I’m gonna say with, I don’t watch much TV other than sports which most of the time are on the cable channels I have or my ESPN watch app. I’m not tech savvy at all. I have seen a lot of people say, in different forums, they are happy about the pelicans getting away from Ballys. It may be a good thing, I don’t really know. I live in Slidell, La. and in years past, I would turn my TV to channel 36 and the pelicans game would be on, no issues. Is that not how this new channel works? Is the channel not carried by spectrum? I can’t seem to get a good answer from friends I’ve asked. Some mention having to have an antenna, some say NBA app and some say get pelicans plus. If that’s the case, My question is, who is this easier/better for and why is it better? Not saying it isn’t, just need to know why. Thanks!

This is better for those who don't have cable. Cox subscribers like me don't need an antenna (which I was just thrilled to discover) - but I'm pretty certain GSEN isn't on Spectrum, so yes you will need an antenna to watch. That means it's not better for you. (Antennas are cheap, but it's annoying to have to switch inputs and not be able to DVR etc).

Others will hopefully correct me if I'm wrong.

No longer on any cable channels unless cable decides to start picking up digital channels from local networks.

Is the channel not carried by spectrum?
Nope

This is the best least expensive option for those in good coverage areas.

some say NBA app and some say get pelicans plus.
These are both options if you don't mind coughing up $15 - $20 a month.

The BallysSports RSN was very limited in its reach, especially since many people have ditched cable for streaming. IIRC, it was only about 1.5 million. With the new deal, the Pelicans can potentially reach 7 million people with just the use of an antenna.

It's a win-win for the team and the fans.

Thanks, I really appreciate it, definitely answered all my questions. I will try out the antenna and see what happens

Hell yeah! I should be able to watch them here in FL from the Mobile network.
I think most of the Pelicans games that will be broadcast here in Mobile will be televised on WALA-Fox 10, Mobile's FOX affiliate. If not most, at least some of their home/away games this season. I believe WALA does actually branch out to the Florida Panhandle, including Destin/FWB.

Be thankful you don't live in Panama City, I'm not sure WALA's feed goes out quite that far since Panama City is essentially the last city or town in the Panhandle before going into the EST and driving through to Tallahassee, then Big Bend/Apalach regions.

Has anyone seen Gulf Coast Sports & Entertainment Network actually show up on Fubo yet? I have Fubo and don't see the channel appearing at all, nor do I find any Pelicans games scheduled to broadcast when I search.

I am local in the New Olreans market area (Northshore), so not out of market... Worried whether it will be there in time for the 1st game -- or maybe it's just something jacked up on my account?

I have had fubo the last 3 years and have had ballys included in a regional channels upgrade, so I figured getting this channel would be seamless. Well I had not seen Gulf Coast Sports pop up for the first game like it should have. I live in Prairieville, so 5 mins from Baton rouge and am well within the area to receive the channel with an antenna.

I called fubo about this and told them my concern. As you can imagine, it was a customer service line that was not much help. He said i was not in the area to receive the channel...i am in the area on the cable broadcast easily so why I would "not be in the area for the channel" especially after having Ballys for years blew my mind.

After a bit I gave up trying to have questions answered because he couldn't even tell me if the channel was available to baton rouge zip codes. So I asked him to remove my regional channels because there was no need for them anymore if I couldn't get a regional channel lol. He said they cant do that (you use to be able to add the regional channels separately to your package for $15 but now its required and is an extra $15 cost that gets added onto your package selection when you check out)

All that to say it was the last thing I needed to convince me to drop Fubo ($120) and switch to youtubeTV ($75, $50 my first two months) and get pelican + ($15). Fubo use to be perfect for me because it was a one stop shop for all the sports i needed, but after the fact I cant get Gulf Coast & i have to pay for those regional channels that are thus no good for me, I switched. I save money this way anyways. What use to make Fubo great for me, is now is gone.

Hopefully this helps you, because if you don't see Gulf Coast now then odds are you cant get it period because you aren't in the "right area". depending on your situation, which i see you are literally in NOLA, I advise switching to YoutubeTV (if you want streaming for cable) and getting pelicans + separately for pelicans games! it is the easiest route I have now seen streaming wise. You can try to give them a call but i have a feeling you would get the same outcome.

I just watched the first game online but I like having the option to watch it easily on my phone and tv, just would rather pay the $15 a month for the good streaming service versus illegal streams lol

Yes so far, my antenna will not catch the Lafayette, Lake Charles or Baton Rouge channels. Looks like Gulf Coast Sports have partnered with the stations with the weakest signals.

Looks like they struggling with Streaming and cable then :ROFLMAO: Wild that someone who has fubo in new Orleans above doesnt have Gulf Coast on their regional channels with fubo. Hopefully its just some growing pains and things will improve. I have had great experience with pelicans +

Were you able to access Pelicans+ on YoutubeTV? I had to cast it from my phone to my TV

I was perfectly content with Bally's because it was included on directv stream and satellite before going to stream. I was able to watch every game for the most part and DVR to watch at my leisure, re-watch if I wanted to, etc. Now I can't get the games at all unless televised nationally or on Fox. Oh well, hope it means better coverage in Alabama and Mississippi, but someone who resides 30 miles outside of New Orleans cant watch the games.

No! I mentioner you tube TV just as the route I now use for "cable" streaming wise versus fubo since fubo failed at getting me Gulf Sports on their regional channels.

You can get the NBA app on firestick to watch pelicans + on it. I usually use my smart tvs interface over firestick, but my smart tv alone could not get the app when I searched it. Usually its good about having apps but the NBA one it cant get, so I just use my firestick, computer, or phone for pelicans+. Also can cast it like you said from your phone to tv if you didn't want to go the firestick route.

Got it thanks. Unfortunately I have a samsung TV which is great as a standalone TV but their app store sucks - does not have NBA app which is crazy - and its flat mounted against the wall so I can't use a firestick or Roku. I'll just cast it for now and hope they cut a deal with Youtubetv.

I have a samsung as well! Overall I have found they have most apps that firesticks have but NBA is for sure not one of them, i searched all I could last night actually before I finally gave up and just plugged in our firestick to it :ROFLMAO: Thankfully mine if flat mounted (maybe an inch form the wall but the sides have an HDMI plug in thats just reachable that I can just use if ever needed.

Yeah if you cant get a firestick into the tv then I agree your only route really seems to be the casting for now. Hopefully they go to youtube tv one day but i also dont mind the $15 pelicans+ because thats what I was already paying to fubo for their "regional channels" that are completely bogus and not regional now apparently :ROFLMAO:

Fubo finally showed up with GCSEN in my cable lineup today! I live in Mandeville on the northshore.

Was contemplating cancellling and moving to a cheaper service plus Pelicans+ if they didn't get this fixed.

Awesome!

Yeah once they told me "I wasn't in a spot to receive the channel" (which cant be possible) lol I gave up :ROFLMAO: Knowing that customer service I probably have the channel now too lol

Thats awesome it showed up for you though. Overall I have liked fubo the past 3 years but I have enjoyed youtubetv, especially with their multiple screens if I'm watching on tv instead of computer. Both are good in my opinion though especially that you can get redzone on fubo easily.
