We're pretty good at grooming o-line players. I think it's a good situation for him to sit, learn, grow, and hopefully be ready when we need him. Not sure how well he can contribute as a tackle eligible.

Reach all the way and a drastic one. This guy was going to go undrafted. Nobody will be able to convince me that there weren’t MUCH better options at this point. Take severe projects like him in the 7th..not in the 4th where you should be getting guys that can at least play special teams. This is not a good pick at all.

Man I prefer not to be negative, but I completely agree. Even if he pans out to be a decent backup, the value is awful. There were 12 OT's rated higher and countless players at other positions that would have presented much better value for the pick. I trust that our scouts identified something in him that moved him ahead of the other tackles, but you've gotta play your odds in cases like this where the player is SO far down the ratings list and gamble that he'll be there a bit later.

Seems like this draft we just don't care where someone is rated. We're just getting our guys regardless of where other teams may have them on their boards. Hope it works out.

Cant really question the saints on mid draft olineman IMO after they have hit on guys like nicks, evans, armstead, streif, etc.. Sure for each of those we have missed on an olineman but if they see the raw upside value i have the faith

That’s me. I have nothing against the kid, but with so many guys available that I do want, I am perplexed that they felt the need to take this particular player this high. He might not have been drafted at all.

Now it is obvious to me that Mo Hurst is not on their draft board.

I think we got at the fourth round that the picks and fits did not match. We took a project, and I wished we would have be able to trad this pick for another next year.

To be fair he has only played on the oline for 2 years, so the fact that he could switch from DE to RT gives me confidence that if given proper coaching he can be a real pleasure to have. Given that he has only played oline for so little time I wonder if they see him as a utility player.

Always love O-line picks....
....but I am pretty ignorant to him....just by looking at the “talking heads” analysis of him, seems like a bit of stretch taking him in the 4th, not to mention it seemed odd that the front office took the entirety of its time to issue the pick....

I assume they were looking to trade down (and received no trades they liked)

Please, the Saints never trade down... This was a straight up reach. The guy had a UDFA grade. Yeah the Saints have hit on mid round olineman but none were blatant reaches where they were selected like this guy.

I would love to have him too, but he seems more like a luxury pick. I think teams are nervous that if you select him, you'll have a hard time cutting him if he's on the bubble.

A good LB a luxury pick? We aren’t living in the 80s. I can count the good LBs we’ve had since the Dome Patrol on one hand...shoot, maybe a few fingers.

12 OT's rated higher by who?? A bunch of guys that are not NFL GM's and coaches??

Who's to say we didnt have him rated as a 2nd round pick?

Whos to say we dont see him switching back to the D-Line and would make a good DT?

Nobody knows what they are thinking except for the guys in the war room

I get not being happy cause it's not Shaquem Griffin and some of you want to root for him, but some of you guys are laughably ridiculous when it comes to the draft. You have no idea where guys are ranked on actual NFL boards, and yet feel the need to post things like "what a waste of a pick, he would have gone undrafted."

You're not getting the player you want and the name players still available are getting passed on because the professionals don't think they are the best selection. There's hundreds of players available and the probability is damn near certain that the best player on the board is someone you've never heard of. Think Marques Colston, Jahri Evans, Terron Armstead.

12 OTs “rated” higher?

You are right, but.......

“Rated” by whom?

Not Ireland, Loomis and Payton.

So I could give a flying you know what about what anyone not named Ireland, Loomis and Payton “ratings”.

We could go over and over on how many misses people have on ratings.

I have full trust with the staff, especially offensive tackles.
