Right Turn on Red (1 Viewer)

I see this as both a pedestrian and driver issue, bit I hold ultimate responsibility on the driver. Typically, drivers that are turning on "red", fail to STOP before attempting to turn at a very high rate. Red light means STOP. If they want to address the problem, then enforce RED LIGHT violations.
I have ticketed this infraction so many times. People think they can just make a right turn.

There is a light leaving the Walmart in Prairieville. There is a NO TURN ON RED sign. I am assuming because its a heavily used U-Turn intersection.
When i am coming out from Walmart, i do not turn on red. But a lot of times, the people behind me either don't see the signs or don't care and i'll get a WTF arms up in the air in the rear view or the horn. I ignore them, because i jut don't care enough to care..lol

They damn sure wouldn't pay the citation either!

exactly.
Just like the ones who ride my tail on the service streets and neiborhood streets because they don't like me going the speed limit. But thats easy to fix with slowing down to half the speed limit, that gets them to back off quickly...

There's an intersection up here in the DFW area in a town right up the road called Celina. It's a growing city and infrastructure is trying to catch up.

Anyways, the intersection is super dangerous. There's a fatality there almost every couple of weeks, or at the least a wreck.

It's an intersection that consists of a very busy 4 lane north/south road, and a less busy cross street. When you get to the light there's two turn lanes in both directions. If trying to go left on a flashing yellow arrow, it is incredibly difficult to see around the cars in the opposite direction/facing you who are trying to turn as well. A lot, and I mean, a lot of people just seem to risk it when they think traffic isn't coming any longer and get plowed.

Anyone else have this type of intersection where you live?

Almost need to make those flashing yellow arrows go away.

i see way too many people risk their lives making left hand turns across multiple lanes when they cannot really see what's coming because of the opposite turn lane. i do not so this. just like at the no turn on red , it's not my fault you are late or impatient. I'm waiting..

Honestly, in larger cities they probably should ban it.
Most countries haven’t allowed right on red in… I’m not sure they ever allowed it. The United States is the exception to the rest of the world. I couldn’t do it when driving in Japan..

We live in a country of amateur drivers. We used to teach driving safety in high schools but they got rid of that even before I got to that age. In other countries you have to go through a fairly rigorous process to get a license. In Japan you have to take a mandatory driving school that includes 40 hours of driving. Heck, in the USA, you can get a Pilots license with 40 hours. I’m sure the Japanese appreciated that US Service members could start driving there after a 4 hour class. 😂

Same in Denmark..

First you need to pass an exam to even start driving school to show that you know the signs and the laws. And it is kind of tough and includes images where you have 10 seconds to decide the right action in the displayed image (and yes they can be tricky - A child in the corner of the image can result in a different action than the obvious first instictive one. 3 strikes and you are out.

Then you need to have a least 30 hours on the road with a coach and finally pass a 60 minutes driving test in trafic and you can be sure that the examinator is going to make you drive through all the worst trafic spots in your area during that hour

Turn on red is not allowed and you better have patience - even at 2 am when there are no other cars on the road and the light stays red for minutes ..

anecdotally I seem to remember the reason our driving privileges are so lax is bc we were still very agrarian when cars were introduced and kids being able to help drive was pushed more than city safety (since most cities had public transit)

But now that I think about it, I wonder if it’s more about selling more cars
