Rizzi didn’t like the draw offsides play on 4th and 1 (1 Viewer)

You can't compare those two decisions equally. Had Bowles went for 2 he could have won the game with a successful try, on the other hand he would have lost the game on a failed attempt. Putting the game on the line on a single play would be lower odds than giving yourself a chance to win in OT. As Cam Newton once said, hindsight is 50/50. The Bux didn't lose the game on a single play. Had they won the coin toss and scored themselves the results would have been a different story.

D.A. not going for the 4th and 1 at midfield was totally different. Had he gone for it and made it the Saints have a 1st down inside the 50 and control the clock and the game with a 5 point lead. They would have been less than 10 yards away from a reasonable FG attempt. Who knows, they may have gotten a few more 1st downs to make it a much closer FG attempt. A made FG puts the Saints up by 8. You can't lose the game at that point by giving up a TD and a 2 pt conversion. CAR could only tie. However, a TD on that drive puts the game away as there's likely less than 3 minutes left in the game and the Saints would be up by 12 points.

Had the Saints went for it and not made it the worst-case scenario would have they turn the ball over on downs near midfield. They still have a 5 point lead. CAR must score a TD to take the lead. There's about 5 minutes left in the game. Even had CAR scored a TD at that point the Saints would have had more than 2 minutes with a chance to win on a FG.

Not going for it on the 4th and 1 at midfield was a cowardly decision. D.A. either had no faith in his offense picking up the short yardage or he had no faith in his defense being able to stop CAR from driving 50 yards to score a TD. Maybe both. With that mindset what difference does it make it the other team has to drive 80 yards or 50 yards to score? Either way you're coaching with the mindset that you can't stop them. This on a team that had put up less than 200 yards offense to that point.

The running game with Kamara had been producing results the entire game. Someone should have shown D.A. the stats.

Taysom had made both of the short yardage attempts earlier that resulted in first downs. On one he willed his way to a first down. Bully Ball!
Sean Payton would go for it on 4 & 4 on his 35 in the first Quarter. IF his offense stalled the prior two times with three and outs. He'd do that to force them to get moving. And he won more of those than he lost, and his team usually scores a TD afterwards.

CSP got blown out this past Sunday 41-10. His team had a 40 Burger dropped on them while His Genius could only muster up 10 points.

Denver is 23rd in scoring in 2024 through 9 weeks. Even with all the injuries and turmoil the Saints rank 15th.

In 2023 Denver ranked 20th in scoring. The Saints ranked 10th.

Having watched the Saints 2023 and 2024 offense and knowing that they rank significantly higher than the Broncos it's hard to imagine getting excited about them.

Way too many people here have selective memory when it comes to CSP.

The "Ambush" call in the SB was genius because it worked. The ball hit a Colts player first and bounced back into play. Imagine had it not worked and cost the Saints the SB. That one play set the tone for victory. That can never be taken away from CSP. Neither can winning a ton of games as HC for the Saints before he quit with burnout or so he claimed before returning to the sidelines just 10 months later. His legacy in NOLA is carved in stone forever. 15 years is a long time ago though.

When will the WWSPD ever end?

Was Taysom even in there for that last play? I don't think he was, which is insane when he's literally the offense
Taysom was not in the game on the final Saints play, the 4th and 4 failure.

Not going for it on 4th and less than a yard near midfield was epic failure on many levels.
1. Not going for it. Period!
2. Trying to draw CAR offsides with Carr under center as a threat to run a QB sneak. His body language never suggested that he would.
3. If you're going to try to draw them offsides have Taysom under center with a hard count.

4. Taysom wasn't even on the field.
5. Panthers players could be heard laughing at Carr after the delay of game.

WOW, i feel like I'm at the library reaching up on my tip toes to reach Sean Paytons book, trying to gingerly slide it out, then boom the whole book shelf falls and burys me. LOL (ANYWAY, my point is that Sean Paytons play calling is aggressive. And IMO its better to be overly aggressive than passive.

I would agree. However, keep in mind this could fall into the category of armchair quarterback. Would he feel the same way if the play had been successful at pulling the other team off sides?
