Ronald Curry interviewed for Saints Offensive Coordinator (2 Viewers)

The more I focus on Ronald Curry the more intrigue it brings to mind....

Question: why would the Saints want to hire an OC from the 'Shanny/Mcvay' tree like everybody else?? Try running the same offense as everybody else?? The same offense that everybody's defense will be preparing for....Ronald Curry may be able to bring some unique offensive ideas that creates different issues for defenses than what they normally prepare for. Plus the Saints still have the Taysom pkgs and i got a feeling Curry, being the stud athlete that he was, his vision for a guy like that could be much different and more creative. Let everybody copy Shanahan and McVay, dare to be different.
Yep, let’s just keep doing what we’re doing. It’s working so well. This stale old game plan no longer has a heartbeat. It’s dead. Other teams have prepared for the saints offense for almost 2 decades.

I kinda feel the same. But if they can keep playing for a full season like they did at the end of this season, that wouldn't be awful. There are still some better situations than the Saints like the Chargers so it's possible they may miss out the top guys. And I don't know that the next tier of coaches is any better than Curry.

Bruh, Shanahan running the same zone offense his pops ran back in the G....30yrs ago. Aint nothing new under the sun, its still football at the end of the day. How do you know that Ronald Curry does not have new ideas??

I kind of look at it as Curry is the worst case scenario and I don't think that's a bad worst case scenario. I hope that one of the outside guys nails the interview and makes himself the clear choice, but I kind of think maybe Pitcher was their guy and he slow played them until he knew what was going on with Callahan. I mean, Burrow and that offensive talent gives him the fast tract to a HC job.

Because you just said there is nothing new under the sun? How could he have new ideas if that is true?

Meaning there's no magic potion offense never thought of before. Let Ronald Curry implement his strategy, not Sean's not Pete's. Every man is different even if they did work together, there no rule saying they will run the exact same plays at the exact same times in a game.

No surprise. Curry deserves an opportunity to share his ideas and vision as a potential OC among the other OC candidates. He’s spent a lot of time in different offensive coaching positions here since coming in during the Payton era.

At least this would guarantee a whole new staff the following year. The continuity stuff is why we are where we are

I can see the Saints promoting Curry, and then bringing in a QB coach/Passing Game Coordinator from outside to bring in some new ideas. That might actually be a safer choice depending on what they really think of Curry as he would already have a connection with Carr and what he likes. But it's pretty clear that they are going to make him earn it if that's the route that they go.
DA was the safe hire.

Exactly. Curry is not going to run the same exact offense that just got a guy fired. He is going to mix things up. I can see Ronald Curry implementing more up-tempo sequences, more no-huddle offense.

He's going to call the same basic offense the Saints have run under Payton. Maybe he does a better job than Pete? I don't know. It was so confusing with Pete. How could the man who called one of the best offenses in NFL history in 2011 be the same as the one who called the last 2 years?

I think the Saints offense that Payton gets all the credit for is really a Payton/Carmichael offense and together with Brees, they made that great. Can Curry get back to that? The last 6 games where Carr put up Brees like number says "maybe".

Curry doesn't have to get back to that, the Saints will never get back to that because Brees is gone. Brees was the transmission that made those Saints teams go. But I just get the feeling that Ronald Curry was the spark that eventually ignited Derek Carr. I am championing for Ronald Curry because I feel like Carr needs him.
